Amber Heard

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been locked in legal battles for the better part of the last year and it’s caused at least one of them to lose a massive amount of work on the acting front. The latest news of these two’s legal strife took a major turn this week with Heard winning a big battle that might begin to spell the end of the legal fight between the two. Johnny Depp just lost an appeal in the British High Court which was seeking to overturn the judgment from his previous case. That one didn’t go in his favor and it doesn’t look like things are going to be turning around on that front.

Johnny Depp was appealing the judgment in a case from over the summer. He and his team of lawyers were claiming the ruling by a lower court was in error and that Depp should have won his case involving Amber Heard and a British tabloid. Depp’s team contended that Heard lied during those proceedings which should have ended up rendering a different verdict. But the appeal court didn’t see it that way and stuck with the original judgment.

This particular legal battle was actually between Depp and the British tabloid The Sun. Depp was appealing a case from over the summer in which he sued the publication for libel. He claimed they made a false statement when describing Depp as a wife-beater in his relationship with Amber Heard. When this went to court, the paper saw it in their best interest to disprove the libel claim by actually proving that Depp was, in fact, a spousal abuser. Over the course of the trial, a number of disturbing and embarrassing things came to light about their relationship. And in the end, The Sun proved its case, and Depp was stuck with the label.

This latest appeal attempt was a last-ditch effort by Johnny Depp and his team to turn the original case around and even make Amber Heard look worse in the process. It doesn’t appear that either worked and the judgment will remain in favor of The Sun.

The fallout from this case was considerable, especially for Johnny Depp. In the wake of the details surrounding his brief relationship with Amber Heard, the actor was quickly fired from making a cameo appearance in the upcoming reboot of The Pirates of the Caribbean. And then it really took a turn for the worst when he was given the boot from playing Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise.

Meanwhile, some fans wanted the same treatment for Amber Heard in her employment opportunities. Some contended that her role in the abusive relationship was similar to Depp’s and she should also be removed from acting opportunities. Things haven’t played out the same way with the actress who just made an appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and will reprise her Queen Mera role in the Aquaman sequel Aquaman: Necrus.

This won’t be the last we hear about the battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. There’s another case gearing up here in the states with Depp suing The Washington Post in a similar vein. It stands to reason that case plays out much like this one, not in Depp’s favor.
