Brian Cox Slams The Bible In Unchained Interview

By Douglas Helm | Published

Brian Cox has been entertainingly fired up about various topics in his interviews lately, and the latest subject to fall into his crosshairs is the Bible. Cox appeared on The Starting Line Podcast for an interview and called the Bible the “worst book to ever grace human history,” which is quite a scathing review. He also refers to it as “the greatest propaganda instrument of all time” while also expressing his belief that God doesn’t exist and religion is a means of control.

Brian Cox Won’t Be Starring With Mark Wahlberg Anytime Soon

Brian Cox isn’t the first person to express his sentiment, and he surely won’t be the last. Cox is someone who isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and he definitely doesn’t seem like he fears any of the sure-to-come backlash from the Christians. In any case, you probably shouldn’t expect to see Cox in any Biblical epics anytime soon.

Joaquin Phoenix Was Another Target

The Bible and religion aren’t the only things that have been the subject of Brian Cox’s wry observations lately, as the actor also recently had some barbs directed at Joaquin Phoenix. At London’s HistFest, Cox expressed that he found Phoenix’s portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte in Ridley Scott’s 2023 epic Napoleon “terrible.” Cox didn’t give Phoenix much leeway in his critique, saying, “I think it’s totally his fault and I don’t think Ridley Scott helps him.

Brian Cox also added that he felt he would have played the part “a lot better.” While reviews for the film were certainly mixed, the movie did grab a few nominations at the Oscars. Clearly, Cox felt like these nominations weren’t deserved.

Brian Cox Had Things To Say About U.S. Politics

It seems like Brian Cox is in his critic era, and nothing is safe from his gaze. It’s honestly pretty entertaining to hear Cox’s unfiltered takes on acting and the world at large. While it’s probably driving his publicist crazy, it’s funny hearing Cox do the grumpy bit in his interviews.

Brian Cox also gave his brief take on US politics lately. He echoed the sentiment of many Americans by saying, “It’s very hard to govern America, and you certainly don’t need idiots like Trump doing that,” and pointing out that he felt Biden is “a good man” but “too old.” Cox also added that he would probably leave the US if Trump ends up winning the re-election.

Staying Busy Since Succession Ended

Brian Cox has been staying relatively busy since his final bow in the HBO series Succession in 2023. Cox played the patriarch of the Roy family, Logan Roy, in the highly acclaimed series for four seasons and earned multiple Emmy nominations along the way. Since then, he’s starred in films like Little Wing and the upcoming Netflix animated film That Christmas in 2024.

Prepare For More Hot Takes Later This Year

Perhaps Brian Cox’s most anticipated upcoming role is in the animated Lord of the Rings film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a prequel film that follows the legendary King of Rohan Helm Hammerhand (Cox), for whom the stronghold Helm’s Deep is named. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is due to come out on December 13 this year, and hopefully, we’ll hear some more of Cox’s hot takes in the press lead-up to that film.
