This Is The End (2013)

The movie stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jonah Hill. Need we say more? Just with those names alone you know what type of humor you are going to get – raunchy, filthy, lots of sexual content, and the frequent use of the “F” word.

The story follows a group of Hollywood celebrities, all of whom play a parody of their real-life personas. They find themselves stuck inside James Franco’s house while the apocalypse is happening all around them. The cameos are many and the celebrity deaths are worth the price of admission, well, in this case, the price of Netflix.

Ted (2012)

Seth MacFarlane brings Ted to life in his comedy directorial debut. The story follows John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) who, as a kid, makes a wish on Christmas for his new teddy bear to come to life and be his best friend.

27 years later, Ted is a foul-mouthed living teddy bear who is best friends with John. Their relationship is about to take a major change when John begins to date Lori (Mila Kunis) and it looks serious. Ted has to do something to break it up, doesn’t he?

Their names are Tallahassee, Columbus, Little Rock, and Wichita and they are smack dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

Can you believe that it has been 26 years since Mike Myers debuted his alter egos, Austin Powers and Dr. Evil? The comedy premiered in 1997 and it is still as funny today as it was back then. Joining Myers in the hilarity are Elizabeth Hurley, Michael York, Robert Wagner, Mindy Sterling, and Seth Green. The only thing we didn’t get in this film were “sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads.”

Pitch Perfect (2012)

The competition is fierce in Pitch Perfect, a musical comedy that stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Anna Camp. They are members of the Bellas, a college singing group who look to make some noise at the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella finals.

Standing in their way are the returning champions, the Barden Treblemakers, led by Adam DeVine and Skylar Astin. Wilson delivers as Fat Amy but the film really sings comedically when DeVine is on the screen.

The Hangover (2009)

Truthfully, we could have done with just one of these Hangover films and called it a day and this would be the one of choice. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, and Zack Galifianakis as four friends who head to Las Vegas to throw a bachelor party for one in the group who is getting married.

After a night of hard partying, the group wakes up with no memory of what happened, a baby in the room, a tiger in the bathroom, and the groom (Bartha) missing. The comedy then ramps up as the trio attempt to piece together the events of the previous night so they can find their lost friend and get him to his wedding in time.

The Nice Guys (2016)

When you think of Russell Crowe films, comedy does not come to mind. You may be surprised by this 2016 film, The Nice Guys, which is set in the 1970s and pairs Crowe with Ryan Gosling. Crowe is a tough guy for hire while Gosling is a private detective and together they join forces trying to solve the mysterious death of a porn star. The film was written and directed by Shane Black.

Jim Carrey

The Cable Guy (1996)

The comedy in this Jim Carrey film is definitely dark. Matthew Broderick stars as Steven Kovacs, a man who has recently moved into an apartment and needs his cable hooked up. What he gets instead is a cable guy who is immediately clingy and when Steven rejects his friendship, the cable guy goes full-out stalker. Carrey is typical Carrey in this film that also stars Leslie Mann, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Eric Roberts.
