For those of you who are worried that The Mandalorian is coming to an end any time soon, you can rest assured that creator Jon Favreau is having a blast producing the series, and will continue to tell his story for the foreseeable future. According to Murphy’s Multiverse, Favreau is just now hitting his stride, and is beyond excited about the all the different directions he can take the Disney+ series. While season 3 is approaching the halfway point, Favreau has confirmed that season 4 has been written, and hopes to begin production sometime this coming fall.

Up until this point, The Mandalorian has been building out its own universe, but is now occupying territory that is parallel to storylines found in the Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew spin-offs. Considering how busy Favreau is with The Mandalorian, there seems to be no end in sight for his creative energy, and his enthusiasm. It’s not uncommon for creators to grow tired of their projects, and express desire to move onto something different, but Favreau has gone on record stating that he still very much enjoys working on the series.

Elaborating on this sentiment, Favreau said:

“I don’t know what would make me not enjoy doing it, especially as long as the audience is connecting with these characters. This feels like a really enjoyable moment. And I love this format of telling one chapter at a time and keeping the audience guessing, but also fulfilling certain expectations.”

-Jon Favreau

Favreau credits his continued enthusiasm for The Mandalorian to its serialized style, rather than the Star Wars feature films that we have grown to adore over the decades. Being able to continue telling a story week after week, and working with the same crew to develop the characters is a format he truly enjoys.

It’s one thing to go alone in producing a series, but the ability to collaborate while working on The Mandalorian is one major key factor that keeps Favreau enjoying the behind the scenes process. Favreau has stated that collaborating with different filmmakers and storytellers like Jon Watts and Chris Ford has only given him more drive to continue the series, and explore territory that has yet to be examined in the series.

Weighing in on the continuation of The Mandalorian, Favreau said, “there’s a lot to draw upon from additional stories that were told outside of what’s considered official canon now, but is held very dearly to the fans who’ve been at it for decades. And so we like to take all of that into consideration.”

Now that there are stories from different series taking place in a similar timeline, the possibilities are seemingly endless for Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu.

The Mandalorian is a space Western that place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and follows the lives of lone bounty hunter Din Djarin who occupies the outer edge of the galaxy. He’s hired by the Imperial forces with the task of capturing Grogu (often referred to as Baby Yoda), but ends up becoming a fugitive after he decides to protect the Jedi critter at all costs. The series has been widely successful since its debut in 2019, and by the looks of it, will continue to develop and explore new territory for the foreseeable future.
