Season 3 of The Mandalorian promises to change Din Djarin forever after returning to Mandalore with the Dark Saber in his possession. ScreenRant reports that fans received an even earlier surprise when director Jon Favreau admitted he was already done writing The Mandalorian Season 4. That by itself isn’t especially exciting, but it’s why Favreau wrote the season so early; that’s fantastic news as the Disney+ Star Wars shows will be crossing over.

Knowing that the next season is already written is excellent news for fans following a three-year gap between the previous two seasons. The Mandalorian was the first Disney+ Star Wars series, debuting alongside the service in 2019, and since then, the show has been credited with saving the franchise following a disappointing trilogy of feature films. So now, the man that directed Iron Man and helped create the MCU is on the cusp of another tightly interlocking universe of shows.

Given how complicated the Star Wars landscape is about to get in the post-Return of the Jedi period occupied by The Mandalorian, it makes sense to finish writing as soon as possible. Joining Disney+ alongside the Pedro Pascal flagship series are Jude Law’s Skeleton Crew and Rosario Dawson’s Ashoka. Exactly how and where each of those shows will cross over is unknown and raises the question, what event could be so big it requires all of those characters?

Jon Favreau isn’t talking, and none of the other Star Wars stars have given any hints as to what lurks in the future for each of their shows. The Book of Boba Fett, the first spin-off, was less of a crossover and more of a Season 2.5 for The Mandalorian. Hopefully, the upcoming event will be more organic compared to the failed attempt at bringing two generations of Mandalorians together.

Fans that skipped The Book of Boba Fett missed out on the importance of the ancient prophecy regarding the restoration of Mandalore. Given Season 3 starts with Din Djinn going to Mandalore, that plot point is likely to be important shortly. Could Faveau’s completion of Season 4 help make it so important details aren’t easily overlooked moving forward?

Disney already has experience with the delicate balancing act of multiple shows, all in the same universe as the MCU. Chances are The Kang Dynasty is already being written, and Kevin Feige is thinking of what comes next after the massive Secret Wars film is done. The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres on March 3rd, but the other shows have no release date beyond “2023.”

Given the success of the first two seasons, fans can give Jon Favreau the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he’s doing with both the upcoming season and the next. Reducing the turnaround time between seasons will go a long way to keeping Star Wars fans engaged, especially now that the future of the films is up in the air. For now, The Mandalorian is not only the best Star Wars show on Disney+, it’s the best part of the venerable franchise.
