Johnny Depp’s Famous Ex Calls Him A Controlling Drunk
During her deposition, the actress laid out a list of claims against Johnny Depp saying that he was prone to mix a drug cocktail of sorts and go off the deep end.
Over one month has passed since the beginnings of the proceedings in the Virginia courtroom surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and the most recent breakthrough for Heard’s side came via Ellen Barkin. Just yesterday, Barkin took the virtual stand to recount her experience of working alongside Depp in the iconic film, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas along with their time together as a romantically involved couple. Although her testimony was short lived, it served a gut punch for Depp as she alleged that the Pirates of the Caribbean star was constantly drinking alcohol and smoking joints while they were dating in the mid-1990s.
During her deposition, Barkin laid out a list of claims against Johnny Depp saying that he was prone to mix a drug cocktail of sorts and go off the deep end. “He switched the buttons,” Barkin said of her personal time with the actor, commenting that although they started as friends who grew to become close friends, their relationship soon evolved into more of a “sexual” one for a period of “several months.” While they may have been happy for the beginning of their romantic time together, Barkin alleges that things began going off the rails, specifically when Depp drank. She alleged that his obsession drove him to create chaotic situations and recounted a night one of those situations turned physical.
As Barkin says, she, Johnny Depp, and several others were in Depp’s Las Vegas hotel room while they were filming Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas back in the mid ‘90s when something snapped. Barkin alleges that Depp hurled a wine bottle across the room at her and others gathered in the leading actor’s suite when the two were caught up in a fight. Although she couldn’t speak to the level of abuse that Amber Heard is accusing her ex-husband of carrying out on her, Barkin did call Depp “jealous” and “controlling” and recounted a time when she alleges that Depp got “very very angry” because he thought she was having sex with someone else. Barkin says that their volatile relationship ended as quickly as it began and that the Animal Kingdom actress hasn’t heard from Johnny Depp since.
Throughout the trial, Amber Heard has alleged that her ex was incredibly abusive when he used drugs and alcohol. Johnny Depp has fought these allegations and said that he is in fact the one being abused and that despite a slight struggle with Oxycodone in 2014, he’s never had any sort of issues when it comes to being under the influence. The defamation lawsuit that is underway surrounds a 2018 Washington Post op-ed that Heard did on being a survivor of domestic abuse. Although the trial is based on the article, not many of the details surrounding the piece have been brought into the courtroom as both parties’ legal teams have instead set out to prove that the other was the abuser.
Ellen Barkin’s appearance before the court was the highest-profile face we’ve seen come forward. Now that Barkin has made her claims, it’s only a matter of time until more celebrities begin to step forward to draw their line in the sand for Johnny Depp or Amber Heard.
