Paul Rudd Has To Be Excited About How They’re Changing Ant-Man
Good news for Rudd!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has undergone a reshuffle. The Marvels has moved from a release date of February 17 2023 to July 28 2023, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania heading in the other direction. The news, courtesy of ComicBook.com will surely excite Ant-Man star Paul Rudd and fans of the character.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the third solo Ant-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sees Paul Rudd return as the iconic shape-shifting hero. Also returning is Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne aka The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne. Jonathan Majors will also feature, having last appeared as Kang the Conquer in the Disney Plus series Loki. Peyton Reed returns as director and Bill Murray will feature as an antagonist in the film. One cast member who won’t be returning is David Dastmalchian, with his criminal turned security professional Kurt seemingly surplus to requirements for this third Ant-Man movie. The void left by Dastmalchian will in part be filled by Kathryn Newton, who takes on the role of Rudd’s on-screen daughter Cassie Lang for the first time.
What Paul Rudd and co. will be up to come February 2023 remains to be seen, as what is now becoming the norm for this current phase of MCU projects, secrecy is paramount. The imminent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has kept plot details to a minimum, and instead teased surprise character inclusions with little to no explanation as of yet. Thor: Love and Thunder only just had its first teaser trailer released on April 19 ahead of a July release this year.
The same shroud of secrecy and delayed trailers is likely to be a trend continued by Paul Rudd’s latest MCU solo project. However, the title and cast do offer up some clues. The subtitle Quantumania points toward the story heavily featuring the Quantum Realm. The Quantum Realm enabled Earth’s mightiest heroes to travel through time in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame so fans can likely expect more time-bending shenanigans this time around. As well as this, Jonathon Major’s inclusion as Kang, a character famed for his time-traveling antics offers further clues regarding the film’s nature. After all, Kang was overseeing multiversal conflict in Loki.
Time travel, alternate realities and the multiverse join secrecy in being another trend of this latest phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced the multiverse in a big way and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to dial it up a notch further. It looks as if Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang will likely be experiencing a multiverse storyline of his own. As time rolls on toward February 17 2023, fans can expect little snippets of information to be drip-fed one tiny morsel at a time, but if recent MCU films are anything to go by, a trailer won’t be coming around anytime soon, but thanks to Marvel’s reshuffle, it will be coming sooner than originally expected.
