Jared Leto

Jared Leto and Margot Robbie previously played the iconic and troubled duo of Joker and Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Apparently, behind the scenes, Leto’s penchant for Method acting led him to do some crazy things, including giving the cast a dead pig, sending bizarre wrap presents, and gifting Robbie a live rat. While Leto was cut out of the Harley Quinn movie, Birds of Prey, a new rumor hints that Robbie and Leto might work together again, this time in Robbie’s new Pirates of the Caribbean film.

We Got This Covered is reporting a rumor from gossip writer Daniel Richtman that says Jared Leto and Margot Robbie might be reuniting for the new Pirates of the Caribbean series led by Robbie. Richtman doesn’t say where this rumor is from, only that the two have apparently talked about it, so this seems questionable at best. Also, Richtman has been throwing around a lot of supposed rumors about the future of Pirates, including that future installments will feature other famous pirates, and that Amber Heard is being considered for Robbie’s Pirates. It seems as though Richtman is just throwing out rumors and hoping one of them sticks.

But it does seem as though Disney is preparing to work with Jared Leto anyway, considering the actor is supposedly preparing to play the role of Ares in the upcoming Tron 3. Disney does often like to work with certain actors multiple times and put them in multiple properties – just look at Johnny Depp with Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland – so there is the slight possibility that Leto could maybe make an appearance.

Jared Leto Margot Robbie Suicide Squad

While we don’t know much about Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean film, except that it’s a wholly original story set in the Pirates world, it sounds like the new film will focus on a primarily female cast. The film will also be written by Christina Hodson, who wrote Birds of Prey, so one could imagine Disney wants to bring that Birds of Prey energy to this new string of films. If that’s the case, Jared Leto could appear as the film’s villain. Besides, Leto already kind of looks like a pirate.

But Jared Leto is also tied to a ton of projects, so it’s not clear which ones will take precedence, or if Leto even has time for another franchise beyond Tron and the DC Universe. Leto already has The Little Things and Morbius wrapped for next year, and he will also appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In addition to these projects that are already wrapped, Leto is in talks to appear alongside Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, and Lady Gaga in Ridley Scott’s Gucci. Leto is also in talks to star in a new Apple TV+ series, WeCrashed, about the story of WeWork.

Jared Leto just might be too busy to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean, and it seems like there isn’t enough evidence at all to confirm We Got This Covered’s news. However, if Disney was planning on replacing Johnny Depp with someone similar, Leto wouldn’t be a bad choice. If this news is legitimate, it is possible Leto might be introduced in Robbie’s Pirates film, with plans to have the character return in the primary Pirates of the Caribbean series. It seems extremely unlikely based on the news announced so far, but Disney’s newfound interest in Leto does make it seem infinitesimally possible.
