Brandon Routh got the chance to don the costume of the world’s first superhero back in 2006’s Superman Returns. Unfortunately, that reboot didn’t take flight but fans still stuck up for Routh’s version of Clark Kent. The actor would return to the DC universe in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as Ray Palmer/The Atom, but he would also end up appearing as an alternate universe version of Superman. And now, he his possibly going to suit up in the blue and red once again.

In an interview with Geek House Show, Brandon Routh was asked about potentially returning in the upcoming DC film The Flash. Routh’s response actually seemed filled with a little bit of hope. “I mean yeah I think that’s always a possibility,” said Routh. “It’s absolutely a possibility – you can do anything!” It sounds like Routh is more than amped to have another turn as the Last Son of Krypton.

We know that Michael Keaton will be appearing in The Flash as his version of Batman, so it stands to reason that we will be seeing a number of different superhero iterations. If there was ever a time to bring back Brandon Routh‘s Superman, The Flash seems like the perfect opportunity. And whatever obstacles The Flash is going to have to overcome, it couldn’t hurt to have a Superman on your side!

Much like Ben Affleck – who is also returning in The Flash – Brandon Routh was a great bit of casting that ended up in a project that wasn’t up to their caliber. There are a number of moments in Superman Returns where Routh is not only channeling the warm spirit of Christopher Reeve, but he is actually honing in on the very core of what Superman should be on screen. It would be a shame if he never got the chance to do that again in a feature film.

However, it is important to note that Brandon Routh is not confirming that he will actually be involved in The Flash. He is simply saying that the possibility exists for his version of Clark Kent/Superman to show up now that the DC films are integrating the idea of the multiverse into their movie plans. Although, Routh could either be using the press to negotiate this into existence or has knowledge that he has to play coy with. Either way, we are not near an official announcement about his Superman coming back.

Still, we hope these kinds of conversations could help Brandon Routh find his way back into the Superman costume. The actor had a fine sendoff with the character in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover episodes of the Arrowverse, but it would be fantastic to see him on the big screen one more time. Watching Brandon Routh team up with Ezra Miller’s Flash and Michael Keaton’s Batman would be one for the record books.

We will keep our eyes and ears peeled for any more potential news about Brandon Routh coming back as Superman. It’s the kind of news we could really use in a year like 2020.
