Buy Your Own Firefly Class Serenity Ship: Now Affordable For The Budget Minded Space Cowboy

The Firefly class ship “Serenity” is one of the most beloved buckets of bolts roaming the inky blackness of space. For me it’s a better ship than even the Millenium Falcon, and it’s ability to utilize two individual main thrusters to perform insane maneuvers ups the cool factor. I had the pleasure back at San Diego Comic Con to get a tour of Quantum Mechanix’ upcoming new replicas, including the now affordable 1:400 scale reproduction of “Serenity.”

“The Big Damn Replica” of “Serenity,” at 1:180 scale, came in at a whopping $2,500 and required special ordering. Now this is nothing compared to the nearly $20,000 TARDIS replica, which I also had the privilege of playing around with, but that’s a chunk of serious cash.

Now everyone can afford to have his or her own “Serenity.” “She won’t be winning any beauty contests anytime soon, but she is solid. Ship like this, be with you till the day you die.” The 8-inch model is beautiful, and full of details. I asked if there was a big red button, but alas that is not included. But damn if everything about the ship isn’t spot on, as it should be.

It’s also nice to know that the people putting this together are probably geekier about the stuff they do than their customers. From the designers and artists to the salespeople the people at Quantum Mechanix are the real thing. They’re a group of passionate people who want to do more than pay tribute to their favorite iconic sci-fi items. Everything is done to exacting standards, because if you’re going to spend serious money on a replica it had better be good.

Part of the Little Damn Heroes Maquette line from Quantum Mechanix, Serenity will be available in December for $99.95.

umm… the entire Firefly tv show was created when Joss Whendon was thinking about the Millennium Falcon, in a way if there was no Millenium Falcon there would possibly be no Firefly…..

“She won’t be winning any beauty contests anytime soon, but she is solid. Ship like this, be with you till the day you die.” This was actually said about another ship that Malcolm Reynolds was considering buying when he looked out in an empty field and saw Serenity(equivalent to the back lot at car dealers where they keep the junkers that is going to the auction to be sold for stripping at parts yards), That was one of Firefly’s best episodes.
