Chicago Fire and its cast have been keeping its devoted viewers on the edge of their seats for seasons on seasons.

Under the production of Dick Wolf, an industry vet well accustomed to these types of drama television series, the show has led to spinoffs within the Chicago universe, including Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med

The actors and actresses that make up the Chicago Fire cast include familiar faces that have stuck it out through all eleven seasons. But even the new-to-Hollywood stars are making a name for themselves on this hit NBC series. Let’s break up the show’s characters, and look at how they make the crew behind Firehouse 51 work.

Warning: There are some spoilers ahead. Going forward, details of cast members give away some important details of the show.

CHICAGO FIRE CAST: THOSE IN CHARGE

Eamonn Walker as Battalion Chief Wallace Boden

Appearing alongside the Chicago Fire cast since the beginning, Walker plays Battalion Chief Wallace Boden, the man in charge at Firehouse 51. Taking his role seriously, Boden is very protective of his crew and isn’t afraid to put his own neck on the line for them. Understanding his devotion, the Chief gets promoted to Deputy District Chief in season 10.

Taylor Kinney as Lieutenant Kelly Severide

Also working alongside the veteran Chicago Fire cast since day one, Kinney portrays Lieutenant Kelly Severide, the officer in charge of Squad 3. Severide has a history with the Chicago Fire Department, as his father previously served as Fire Chief. However, his dedication and service proved that this wasn’t a job handed to the young man, but one earned.

Charming, Kelly began the show as a “ladies’ man.” However, he put his flirtatious days to rest after he began dating Stella Kidd in season five. The pair became engaged in season nine and officially tied the knot during the show’s season 10 finale.

After it was announced that Taylor Kinney would take a leave of absence from Chicago Fire, the show bid Lieutenant Severide a (temporary?) farewell halfway through Season 11.

Severide was written off when he is sent away for arson investigation training, and his character won’t return for the remainder of the 11th season.

David Eigenberg as Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann

As the series began, Eigenberg joined the Chicago Fire cast as veteran firefighter Christopher Herrmann. But by the seventh season, Hermann is promoted to Lieutenant, becoming the officer in charge of Engine Company 51.

He plays as a father figure to the rest of the crew, who are often found coming to him at times of need.

Herrmann doesn’t just serve that role to the young firefighters and paramedics. At home, he shares five children with his wife, Cindy Herrmann. If that all didn’t make him busy enough, he also co-owns a bar, Molly’s, which is often featured on all three shows in the Chicago Universe.

CHICAGO FIRE CAST: THE FIREFIGHTERS

Joe Miñoso as Firefighter Joe Cruz

Chicago Fire cast

Miñoso has portrayed Joe Cruz as an integral part of the Chicago Fire cast since season one. With a troubled upbringing, he was raised in some of the city’s worst neighborhoods rife with gang violence. He even spends a major portion of the early seasons helping his younger brother out of trouble.

Cruz was the truck driver for Truck 81 up until season three. Since then, he has driven for Squad 3. In the eighth season, he marries Chole Allen. The two welcome their firstborn son in season 10.

Christian Stolte as Firefighter Randy “Mouch” McHolland

Another senior firefighter in the Chicago Fire cast, Stolte plays fan-favorite Randy McHolland. To the crew, however, McHolland simply goes by “Mouch” a combination of “man” and “couch” to signify where and what the firefighter is best known for when off-duty at the station.

But Mouch does much more than he appears. He serves as the stations union rep, and oftentimes as a legal advisor.

He also is the co-owner of Molly’s bar with Herrmann. In the fourth season, he married Sergeant Trudy Platt as part of a crossover with the character from Chicago P.D.

Miranda Rae Mayo as Firefighter Stella Kidd

Mayo may not be part of the O.G. Chicago Fire cast, but fans quickly fell in love with her portrayal of Stella Kidd after she was introduced in season four. Kidd started her journey as a firetruck driver. But after passing her exams in season nine, she is promoted to become Lieutenant.

When Kidd joins Firehouse 51, she finds herself recently divorced. Soon after, she rekindles a past love interest with Lieutenant Kelly Severide. Proving that theirs must have been a long-lost love, the two tie the know at the end of season 10.

Daniel Kyri as Firefighter Darren Ritter

Kyri plays one of the newcomers in the Chicago Fire cast, joining the crew in season seven. Ritter was transferred to the Firehouse at the recommendation of Mouch, who helped him break through some issues during a fire in which he made his first live saving maneuver.

Though troubled at times, Ritter is determined to follow in the footsteps of his Uncle, who served as a FDNY firefighter.

Alberto Rosende as Firefighter Blake Gallo

Rosende portrays Blake Gallo, the newest full-time firefighter to join the Chicago Fire cast. First appearing in season eight, Gallo is young and ambitious about joining the Firehouse 51 crew. His desire to become a firefighter began after he lost his entire family in a house fire.

This tragedy occurred when Gallo was just 12, but it sparked his interest in the service. With continuous ambition, he is always ready to spring into action. Severide and Herrmann quickly notice this, and soon became his mentors.

CHICAGO FIRE CAST: THE PARAMEDICS

Kara Killmer as Paramedic Sylvie Brett

Killmer joined the Chicago Fire Cast as Sylvie Brett during season three. Assigned to ambulance 61, Brett struggled at first to adjust to the big city life, which poured over into her work.

However, she not only eventually adjusted to her new life but also proved her worth in the Firehouse, being promoted to Paramedic in Charge.

At the end of the ninth season, she begins dating the show’s former Captain, Matthew Casey. But as Casey steps away from his job and moves to Oregon, their relationship takes a turn. By the latest season’s premiere, the two officially called it quits.

Hanako Greensmith as Paramedic Violet Mikami

Another newcomer joining the Chicago Fire cast in season eight, Greensmith plays Violet Mikami, the newest paramedic. Her character is very competitive, and even appears to clash with Gallo at times. However, the two end up dating briefly.
