The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, a sequel to one of the best video games ever made, is probably one of the most anticipated gaming titles coming out, well, at some point. Amidst the pandemic, and Nintendo’s own delays, the game that was supposed to be released a month or two ago, is now scheduled for a spring 2023 release window for an unspecified reason. As a result, the franchise’s fandom clings to every piece of information about the upcoming game, including the newest plot leaks.

An Italian voice actor Pietro Ubaldi, the voice of Daruk in the original game, dropped a big spoiler for the Zelda: The Breath of the Wild 2, as reported by IGN. More specifically, Ubaldi shared two interesting points about the upcoming sequel. First and foremost, the actor shared that he’s voicing Daruk in the sequel, who passed into the afterlife at the end of 2017’s mega-hit, making his upcoming appearance a bit odd. The second point of interest is the appearance of Daruk’s ancestors — a mysterious character also voiced by Ubaldi.

These seem to imply a link to the past, potentially leading to all sorts of things in Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. This indicates that Link might have to address the past again, though he might have to travel a bit further back this time. Some fans theorize that the protagonist might have to travel to “ancient times” mentioned in the game, some 10,000 years prior, based on Breath of the Wild’s lore. In that case, Daruk’s ancestor could be an original Divine Beast pilot.

Unfortunately, none of this has been officially confirmed, and it’s really hard to tell unfounded speculation apart from anything factious since Nintendo wasn’t really forthcoming about the information surrounding this title. Everything we know so far is derived from the information fandom has gathered from Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 trailer, which showcased longer-haired and seeming injured Link in toga-like clothing, which the fandom believes is Link from ancient times.

Of course, there are fan theories and speculations based on said information, and while they sometimes pan out as correct, it’s best to take them with a grain of salt as a prescription against disappointment in the case said speculations turn out to be just that — speculations. With that said, Time is yet again the center of a Zelda game, and considering that Link is the Hero of Time, travels into the distant past in Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 might not be as far fetched as they sound, and the upcoming game could explore temporal themes even further.

The Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s aforementioned delay, though devastating to the hearts of fans, does have its positive sides. One of them is a whole year of additional development and implementation of content ideas, which would result in a well-optimized, and relatively bug-free game. In addition, the additional content developed from the title might spill over, as was the case with the original Breath of the Wild, and perhaps even offer fans a third Breath of the Wild game in the future. Who knows? After all, the upcoming Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was initially designed as a DLC but grew into a full-fledged gaming title.
