Star Trek has plenty of crossovers in its universe, with established characters from one series appearing to another or even film characters crossing over to television. However, the franchise has purposely kept its crossovers with other franchises or fictional universes limited until now. Well, that’s about to change because Star Trek is finally crossing over with another franchise from the gaming industry, and if you haven’t guessed so far – it’s Fortnite.

Fortnite’s Chapter 2: Season 7 landed on Fortnite’s battle royale island, bringing flying saucers, futuristic alien technology and weapons, and of course, the aliens themselves, as reported by the We Got This Covered. The new season brought thematic changes encompassing extraterrestrial life referenced in pop culture, which is a significant shift to futuristic sci-fi from the previous season’s prehistoric theme. Naturally, the new patch introduces several new characters from other pop-culture franchises, including Superman, Rick from Rick and Morty, and speculated Star Trek character(s), and perhaps even Metroid/Samus.

Though the Star Trek characters aren’t officially announced or even displayed in the Battle Pass menu, their appearances are highly speculated, thanks to several teasers over the past few weeks, including the one from Epic’s COO Donald Mustard. Mustard featured one of the Star Trek posters in one of his appearances, teasing a crossover between Star Trek, and crossover-king Fortnite, suggesting that the crew of USS Enterprise might appear in the battle royale. But which character, and from which era?

Well, that remains to be seen. The poster in question is for J.J. Abram’s Star Trek: Into Darkness from 2013, which potentially signals the appearance of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, or other, more prominent figures from Star Trek. The appearance of Star Trek characters was only teased but never officially announced or published, inciting further speculations surrounding their alleged appearance. Superman, for example, is featured in the new Battle Pass but only becomes available mid-August, while obtaining Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty requires a Battle Pass level 90 or a significant amount of Battle Stars to unlock him earlier.

Unfortunately, with Fortnite’s new patch now live, Star Trek characters are nowhere to be found – which doesn’t mean they won’t appear in the near future. Admittedly, their presence would match Fortnite’s sci-fi setting, without breaking Starfleet’s Prime Directive, given how the new patch center’s around alien life and technology. But alas, the players can still experience the joys of a good alien invasion, as they get to hijack, hack, and pilot flying saucers and wield highly advanced weaponry, like rail guns equipped with scanning devices that can scan and shoot through walls.

Indeed, Fortnite’s new season brought many changes, including enhanced graphical effects and improved post-processing and shadow quality features for the PC version of the game, rivaling the visual quality to that found on next-gen consoles. Naturally, this affected the system requirements for the game. Still, you won’t need any Star Trek-level hardware to enter Fortnite’s battle royale and exchange a few rounds with extraterrestrial life.

With everything said, the Star Trek character crossover with Fortnite remain speculative, at least for the time being. Live long and prosper until the Starfleet arrives.
