One of the most exciting announcements last year was that of Dead Space getting a long-awaited remake. The game is arguably one of the scariest ever made and with the emergence of next-gen graphics, it was certainly time to return to this classic. EA has decided to give the remake a green light and many presumed that it would be released in October of 2022, however, that is not the case. There wasn’t a concrete release date ever given, and now fans will have to wait until early 2023 to play the remake. You can see the Twitter announcement below:

EA is ensuring that this game will be a success, much like the remake of Resident Evil 2 was for Capcom. However, there is likely a ton more that must go into a game like Dead Space. RE2 is on the short side of things, and while they completely overhauled the graphics, that game likely wouldn’t take as long as Dead Space would. While fans might be upset at the delay, it could be that the team at Motive needs more time to iron out the wrinkles. The thing of note here is that “early 2023” is vague. That could mean the remake is going to come out in quarter one of 2023, but then again, it could mean the first half of the year as well. Hopefully the former is true.

Dead Space is set to be a mostly new experience for players. In tune with how God of War was shot, the team at Motive have also said they want Dead Space to be a, “fully unbroken experience,” meaning they are planning to seamlessly go from cutscenes back into the player’s perspective. With how fast the new SSD (solid-state drives) are in the new PS5 and Xbox consoles, that would make a ton of sense. The game is also being redone with even more horrifying audio via the A.L.I.V.E. system. Isaac will now breathe more violently when running out of air, exerting himself, and when hurt, in a much more intense manner. The idea is that the game is being redone to drive home the horror aspect even deeper. Good luck playing this one at night with headphones on.

While it may be a bit upsetting to have to wait a bit longer for the Dead Space remake, it sounds as if Motive is pulling out all the stops to redefine this horror classic. That bodes well for those who have fallen more in love with being scared out of their wits via a video game. The horror genre seems to be coming back in a big way, and EA sees the benefit in that. With how successful the more recent Resident Evil entries and remakes have been, they are likely putting even more emphasis on Dead Space. The Dead Space remake has been delayed to early 2023, but hopefully, that means we won’t have to wait past the Spring months to experience the horrors of deep space again.
