Zack Snyder Justice League

The long-awaited first official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League is here, and it is a doozy. Zack Snyder did promise a trailer would drop today, and he absolutely delivered. Here it is, in all its apocalyptic, superheroic glory:

It’s apparent from this Justice League trailer is that Zack Snyder’s version of the movie is dramatically different than the version that came out in 2017. Unsurprisingly, it is closer in tone, color, and feel to Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel, but feels bigger, more violent, and more dire.

The theatrical cut of Justice League hit theaters back in November 2017. Critics panned it, fans abhorred it, and Snyder fans quickly took to the internet to express their desire to see his cut. Snyder left the project for personal reasons, prompting Warner Bros. to hire Joss Whedon to finish up production. With many believing that Whedon was the reason behind the film’s failures, and even stars from Justice League saying that Whedon’s actions on set were problematic, the desire to see Zack Snyder’s original vision had led to HBO Max putting out his version of the film next month.

Ray Fisher has kept the troubled production of Justice League in the news for several months now, and judging by how many people have come forward to support his claims and how passionately he has stood up for himself and his co-stars, it is important that his allegations are taken seriously. Hopefully, all of this shakes out in a way that provides peace and closure to those who have been negatively affected by Whedon’s alleged abuse.

But even though Fisher has stepped out of the DC Universe, his Cyborg makes quite a few appearances in this Justice League trailer. Also seen in the trailer are Ben Affleck’s Batman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. The trailer also gives a glimpse of Jared Leto’s remodeled version of Joker, as the trailer ends showing Affleck’s Batman coming face-to-face with the clown.

There are also quite a few characters that will appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League that we don’t see in this first trailer. Arguably the two most anticipated appearances will come from Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, and Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter. While it’s unclear how much more we will get of these characters and the Joker over the course of this longer cut, it is exciting to see what Snyder will do with these characters when given more time and a larger scope.

Yet despite people clamoring for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Warner Bros. had to spend around $70 million more for this four-hour film. This included a reworking of visual effects, editing, score, and new filming, which apparently comprises only four minutes of screentime.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will stream exclusively on HBO Max starting March 18. There is currently no interest in a Snyder-helmed Justice League 2, but depending on how well this new version of Justice League is received, who knows what the future will hold for these DC heroes.
