Bad news for fans of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead franchise. According to Total Film, Snyder’s animated series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas has officially been canceled.

The newest addition to the franchise after the release of Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves was intended to be released on Netflix soon. After tons of work, it’s a shame a nearly finished project has hit such a wall.

Netflix Cancels Lost Vegas Despite It Being Ready To Go

Zack Snyder even said that most of the work on the series has already been finished. The script is complete. The animation is nearly finished, and all of the voices have already been recorded for the series. He went on to say that the series is so close to being finished that “you could watch it.”

Earlier in 2023, Zack Snyder publicly revealed that the upcoming animated series was having some trouble and had been stalled. Snyder stated that Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas had been delayed due to “technical reasons.” There’s still no official word on what really caused the project to fall apart.

Lost Vegas Was Scott Ward’s Origin Story

Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was set to tell the origin story of one of the original Army of the Dead movie characters, Scott Ward (Dave Bautista). It would tell fans a little more backstory on Ward and his rescue crew, giving insight into what really happened when the zombie outbreak first started and the initial fall of Vegas.

The new Zack Snyder series would have starred Dave Bautista as the voice of Scott, Ana De La Reguera as Maria Cruz, Tig Notaro as Marianne Peters, Omari Hardwick as Vanderohe, and Ella Purnell as Kate Ward, just like in the original movie, Army of the Dead.

Additionally, Joe Manganiello (Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man), Christian Slater (The Legend of Billie Jean), Harry Lennix (The Blacklist), Ross Butler (Riverdale), Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), and Jena Malone (Zack Snyder’s action film Sucker Punch) would have also played significant roles in the new series.

Lost Vegas Features A Crossover With Rebel Moon

Zack Snyder revealed in one interview that Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was going to reveal a hidden link via an interdimensional portal between the Army of the Dead universe and the world of Rebel Moon, one of Snyder’s most talked about upcoming films on Netflix.

Zack Snyder talked about how Army of the Dead actually has a vast mythology that was never clearly explained via the movies. Apparently, a character from Rebel Moon was supposed to make an appearance in the new animated addition to the Army of the Dead franchise.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Lands On Netflix This December

Fortunately, Zack Snyder’s other project, Rebel Moon, will successfully make it to the Netflix registry near the end of the year. Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire tells the story of a peaceful moon colony living in the farthest reaches of the universe.

When the colony is threatened by the tyrannical Regen Balisarius, a character named Kora steps up to help lead the settlement and protect the group’s survival. Rebel Moon will be released on Netflix for streaming on Friday, December 22.
