Zack Snyder says he would be happy to work with Amber Heard and was saddened to see the actress face ridicule following her legal troubles with ex-husband Johnny Depp. “I just don’t get it,” the filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter. “If other people don’t like her, I don’t know what to say. I would work with her in a second.”

The Johnny Depp/Amber Heard Trial

Debbie Depp

In 2022, Amber Heard and Depp were involved in a widely publicized defamation trial that captured global media attention. Ultimately, the jury overwhelmingly sided with Depp, resulting in widespread online criticism against Heard. This criticism manifested in various ways, such as a petition with over 4.6 million signatures calling for her removal from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Amber Heard later became the subject of memes and social media mockery that alluded to the extensively covered trial. Zack Snyder collaborated with the actress on Justice League in 2017, where she made her debut as Mera before reprising the role in 2018’s Aquaman. She reunited with Snyder to film additional scenes as the character for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which premiered on Max in 2021.

Following the defamation trial, Amber Heard took a hiatus from acting, and her future in Hollywood remains uncertain. While she will reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, her character is expected to have little screen time as the focus shifts towards exploring the relationship between brothers Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Orm (Patrick Wilson).

Zack Snyder’s Relationship With Other DCEU Actors

Amber Heard isn’t the only troubled actor Zack Snyder cares about. The director also keeps in touch with Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in Justice League and later accused Joss Whedon of racism. He’s also offered support to The Flash star Ezra Miller during their recent mental health struggles and legal issues. “[They] did a great job in that Flash movie,” Snyder said. “It’s very difficult to play against yourself.”However, Zack Snyder says his time with the DCEU is over, and persuading him to revisit it would be difficult. While he might entertain the idea of returning to DC if his friend James Gunn extended an invitation, it would only be for a faithful adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. If Marvel asked, he might contemplate a Daredevil and Elektra movie.
