Lady Deathstrike appeared in X2: X-Men United almost twenty years ago. She was the villain for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the film. Though she didn’t speak much, she was memorable. Now, there is a possible chance the character will reprise her role from Fox’s X-Men universe and enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kelly Hu, who played the iconic villain, expressed her feelings towards a possible return to the role during a recent interview.

In the recent interview, Kelly Hu told ComicBookMovie her thoughts and feelings towards playing Lady Deathstrike in the X-Men universe for Fox. Having the chance to portray a character that fans had envisioned from reading comic books was a once in a lifetime opportunity. “…So, yeah, I feel honoured that I get to have a little bit of creation as well in this comic book world through Lady Deathstrike, so it’s super fun to know you’ve had a little imprint on a character that is so beloved.” However, while the opportunity was in her past and she sounds satisfied with that, the chance to bring Lady Deathstrike to the big screen again would be an opportunity hard to pass up.  “Yeah, it would be awesome to bring Lady Deathstrike back and actually have some dialogue this time [Laughs]. It would be a lot more fun with dialogue.”

It isn’t a total surprise that Kelly Hu would be happy to return. After all, according to MovieWeb, Kelly Hu has continued to take part in roles with a superhero element outside of X-Men. She has voiced the role of Ms. Li in films such as Batman: Under the Red Hood. Kelly Hu will also voice the character of Jade Nguyen/Cheshire in the upcoming animation titled, Catwoman: Hunted. The film is set to be released in 2022 and also stars Elizabeth Gillies as Catwoman and Stephanie Beatriz as Batwoman.

Kelly Hu hasn’t been the only X-Men star to voice their interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not long ago, Shawn Ashmore expressed how he wanted to relive the character of Iceman once again. Iceman appeared in X-Men in 2000. Kelsey Grammar, who switched roles from Dr. Frasier to Beast in the film, X-Men: The Last Stand, also spoke about his willingness to explore the character again in the Marvel Universe. It seems many X-Men stars are voicing their interest in making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many more might also express their desire to do so as well. The big question is: what is Marvel’s plan? As of yet, audiences are still in the dark on that one.

While it is too early to tell if any of these characters will appear in an upcoming Marvel film any time soon, the prospect is definitely an exciting one. In a world where Marvel movies have been dominating the film spectrum for many years now, mixing the universes would always be an interesting endeavor for the actors, but most importantly, the fans. Although Kelly Hu has played the role of Lady Deathstrike on only one occasion, there might be a lucky chance that number might change. Until then, we can keep our fingers crossed in the hopes of seeing the characters again.
