Per an exclusive report from Deadline, Wednesday’s Emma Myers is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game Minecraft. The film, which is being produced by Warner Bros, is expected to arrive in theaters in April of 2025. While there is very little information regarding the plot and development of the upcoming film available to the public at this time, Myers’ contract and newfound massive star power means she will likely play an integral role in the live-action film.
Emma Myers Joins The Cast Of Minecraft
Emma Myers closed her deal with Warner Bros this week, which will see her starring in the Minecraft film alongside such massive talent as Game of Thrones‘ Jason Momoa, Peacemaker‘s Danielle Brooks, and emerging child star Sebastian Eugene Hansen. The film has been written by a team that consists of Masterminds‘ writing duo Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, alongside original Minecraft creator Markus Persson. Jared Hess, director of the 2004 cult classic Napoleon Dynamite, is set to helm the film.
Jared Hess Helming The Live-Action Adaptation
While the Minecraft movie is reportedly set to be a fully live-action film, there will likely be a great deal of special effects and digital tracing involved to bring elements such as Creepers and the Ender Dragon to life. This makes Jared Hess a welcome candidate to helm the movie, as he previously had experience blending live-action filmmaking with digital animation in outings such as the short-lived Fox television series Son of Zorn. With Emma Myers signed on to the Minecraft film, the movie will likely see a massive wave of viewers flooding theaters when it finally premiers.
Emma Myers As Enid In Wednesday
Before Emma Myers joined the Minecraft movie, she was best known as Enid Sinclair in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday. As Enid, Myers stars in all eight episodes in the series’ first season, as a werewolf student at the daunting Nevermore Academy, also serving as a roommate and best friend to the eponymous Wednesday Addams.
The series, which was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, made waves upon release, resulting in over 1.72 billion global watch hours, making it Netflix’s most-watched series of all time.
Minecraft The Video Game
Of course, even without Emma Myers’ involvement, the Minecraft movie would almost assuredly be a massive hit, as the game has sold over 300 million copies, and currently serves a user base of more than 140 million active players. The longevity and continued updates to the game have contributed to its reputation as the highest-selling video game ever, making a film adaptation of the 8-bit world a certified slam dunk.
The Minecraft Movie Releases In 2025
Emma Myers and her co-stars are expected to fly out to New Zealand to begin film production by the end of the month. With the beautiful scenic environments present in the country, which has lent its landscape to such classic films as Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Peter Jackson’s iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy, fans can rest assured that Minecraft‘s blocky textures will be done justice. The Minecraft movie is currently on schedule to premiere on April 4, 2025.
