Tom Cruise could be stepping into the Iron Man armor if a recent rumor is to be believed. According to the report from insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is eyeing the blockbuster star for a cameo appearance in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry.

If this scoop is on the money, Tom Cruise would appear in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as a Tony Stark from a different universe. Reportedly, the Sam Raimi film will showcase a number of different universes and Marvel wants to use this opportunity to showcase some potentially buzzworthy cameos. Nabbing a global superstar like Tom Cruise and having him appear as Iron Man would definitely be something that would get people talking.

It is not out of the realm of possibility for Tom Cruise to show up in a cameo role. He did the same thing in the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder and became one of the most memorable elements of that film. And he might be doing a similar thing in the upcoming Netflix action film Red Notice. Not to mention that he has stepped in as another franchise hero for a fun cameo in the past, and even did so alongside Pepper Potts herself, Gwyneth Paltrow. Though this is only a rumor at this point, it is one that seems to fit in with some other choices he has made in his career.

Seeing Tom Cruise pop in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness would certainly be a talking point for the film. It would also open up the possibility of Cruise becoming Iron Man in other future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Though it would be difficult to see anyone else as Tony Stark, this particular concept could be very fun if played the right way. It also leads to even more theorizing about what other kinds of surprises Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness could open up. There have already been rumblings of Tobey Maguire appearing as Spider-Man in the film. If these rumors end up being true, it would make Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness one of the most talked-about films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And in all honesty, it would simply be very fun to see what a Tom Cruise Iron Man would be like. Cruise was even attached to the character as far back as 1998, so his potential appearance would also act as a fun meta cameo. If Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness even wanted to play with time periods, we could see Tom Cruise appear as a ’90s version of Iron Man. The possibilities are limitless for these kinds of ideas.

If Tom Cruise does show up as Iron Man in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it would definitely be a highlight of the film. Even if this rumor does not come to fruition, it still shows what kind of crazy ideas Sam Raimi and Marvel might have in store of the next entry in Doctor Strange’s franchise. We will keep our fingers crossed that any and all of Raimi’s crazy ideas make their way to the big screen.
