Martin Short and Steve Martin are full of jokes on their comedy tour dubbed “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today!” but the latter dropped a big announcement at a recent performance. While we’ve known that Season 3 of their hit Hulu mystery series Only Murders in the Building was on the way for some time now, Martin announced that the next installment of the series, in which they star alongside Selena Gomez, would be back on air on August 8.

The news came straight from an audience member (as per Variety) who said that while the two Saturday Night Live alum were performing at the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, Florida over this last weekend, Steve Martin let the big news slip out during the opening bit. While entertaining the audience with photos of them next to several members of the Only Murders in the Building cast, the informant says that Martin told audiences they could “Catch the new season August 8.” Hopefully, the star was allowed to drop this information and we don’t have a Tom Holland/MCU crisis on our hands.

A viewership juggernaut for the streaming service, fans have been flocking to the comedy mystery series since it first debuted in 2021. Packed with an all-star cast including the likes of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building follows a group of neighbors living in a swanky and architecturally gorgeous building in the Upper West Side called the Arconia. In the first season, Oliver Putnam (Short), Mabel Mora (Gomez), and Charles-Haden Savage (Martin) found a common denominator in their love for true crime podcasts. Like any good crime junkies, their fascination for unsolved cases leads them to become armchair detectives and sleuths.

The first season, which along with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez also starred the likes of Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, followed the trio as they delved into the mystery surrounding their neighbor Tim Kono (Julian Cihi). Back with a bang, Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building followed the bizarre death of the building’s board president, Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), but this time the stakes were higher as the triad found themselves the number one suspects in the case.

Like the first season, the second also boasted a killer ensemble cast with the likes of Michael Rapaport, Cara Delevingne, and Paul Rudd joining the series. Not only will the upcoming installment bring back Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short, but they’re upping the ante as Paul Rudd has been bumped up to a series regular with the incomparable Meryl Streep also adding her name to the call sheet.

As for what we can expect from the third season, it’s really anyone’s guess, as plot details are being kept under wraps. Because the first two installments centered around murders that happened to people involved in the building’s orbit, we can expect a similar pattern to play out. With Steve Martin spilling the beans and revealing the show’s comeback, we at least have a set date to look forward to unraveling the next mystery in Only Murders in the Building.
