Shia LaBeouf hasn’t had the best of runs in Hollywood over recent years, falling in and out of favor while he’s been in and out of rehab. It’s made for a volatile career for the once-mega-famous star who was grabbing huge role after huge role. But that isn’t the case these days and now there’s another hit to his reputation with news that Netflix has pulled his name from their award season press material after a new round of disturbing allegations.

The decision by Netflix to distance themselves from the actor after this last round of abuse allegations is tied to his role in the Pieces of a Woman. The movie is set to debut on the platform in the New Year while getting a late-2020 theatrical run for award posterity’s sake. Early reviews have it as a great critical success and Netflix was preparing some “For Your Consideration” material to have it land in awards season hype. But they’ve taken Shia LaBeouf’s name off that material and won’t be promoting him for any awards.

Netflix’s decision to distance itself from the troubled actor comes on the heels of allegations made by his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs. The musician, who was in a relationship with Shia LaBeouf for about a year in 2018-2019, made a number of rather disturbing claims about their time together. Among the allegations, which came in the form of a lawsuit, are numerous instances of physical abuse during their time together. Those include, but aren’t limited to being thrown up against a car, choking, and even sexual assault along with emotional abuse as well. There are a number of different horrific incidents being laid out here and it’s no wonder Netflix wants nothing to do with this situation.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Shia LaBeouf has shown troubling behavior, possibly tied to his bouts of addiction. He’s been arrested numerous times for disorderly conduct including a 2014 incident in New York City in which he was removed from a Broadway theater after yelling at actors on stage during the performance. And there was also an arrest in Georgia for, among many other things, public intoxication, menacing behavior, and a racist rant that was caught on video.

Frankly, with these allegations in the past, plus other ex-girlfriend claims of abuse on the part of Shia LaBeouf, it’s amazing we are even still talking about the actor in various roles. Of course, those might be coming to an end after this latest lawsuit and what FKA Twigs has alleged. It could end up being a bridge too far for Netflix going forward, especially if they want him off of promotional materials now.

Shia LaBeouf’s dance card is looking thin with no other movies upcoming, in pre-production of otherwise coming down the pike. And it’s hard to see how those would begin to take shape in the short term considering how toxic a personality the actor has become in recent years. With the lawsuit likely hanging in the public eye for some time, I doubt we see much of the actor on screen.
