Scott Pilgrim is back and louder than ever in the first trailer for Netflix’s anime series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The gang’s all here and better than ever – in vibrant anime-style art that puts an entirely new spin on the characters from the beloved graphic novels-turned-live-action feature. From the artistic hands at Science Saru to names tied with the production including Edgar Wright, BenDavid Grabinski, and Bryan Lee O’Malley, the trailer promises that the show will be a must-see.

The teaser is a full minute of non-stop action, featuring epic battles between Scott and his foes while loud guitars blare in the background.

Counting off and introducing the band, Sex Bob-Omb, Alison Pill’s Kim Pine gets the music going in the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off trailer. Dazzling animation draws the eye into the new story of the titular guitar-playing love-obsessed main character who is on a mission to gain the affection of his crush, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

Perhaps the biggest bit of excitement was that the leading cast from the 2010 live-action film adaptation would all be coming back to reprise their roles

After rumors had been circulating surrounding the arrival of a Scott Pilgrim-based anime series coming to Netflix, the platform confirmed the news in the spring. Perhaps the biggest bit of excitement was that the leading cast from the 2010 live-action film adaptation would all be coming back to reprise their roles – something that would’ve been unlikely had the project been another live-action piece.

Included in the lineup alongside Kim Pill and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, and Johnny Simmons as Young Neil.

When To Watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

The eight-episode series will hit Netflix on November 17, just in time to warm up audiences as the first cold days of winter kick-off. As far as a plotline, it isn’t yet fully clear where Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will take the animated characters. While we can expect the titular guitar slasher to fend off Ramona’s evil exes and even come to terms with his breakup with Larson’s Envy Adams, other details have yet to be revealed at this time.

Stepping into the role of showrunner, Bryan Lee O’Malley (who penned the original graphic novels) will also serve as the anime’s writer and executive producer alongside BenDavid Grabinski. After leaving their mark on the franchise by directing the 2010 film, Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall are also teaming up behind the scenes as executive producers. Finally, celebrated animator, Abel Góngora, joins Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as the director.
