More and more adults are buying Lego sets for themselves and having an awesome time building them. Feeling left out? We’ve got you (or your parents) covered with the best new Lego sets for adults.
Lego has made some truly fantastic sets in recent years, complex sets that contain thousands of pieces. These are the real must-haves for any adult Lego fan.
LEGO 1989 Batmobile
Maybe the great Tim Burton Batman movies have been eclipsed in greatness by the more recent Christopher Nolan versions, but its hard to argue that any version of the Batmobile has ever looked better than the one in the 1989 Batman movie. LEGO, understanding its appeal, has turned that Batmobile into one of the best LEGO sets of all time.
The 1989 LEGO Batmobile set contains over 3000 and comes with three minifigs: Batman, Joker, and Viki Vale. It costs a whopping $249 but it seems totally worth the price. It’s only available for a limited time, so grab it fast.
LEGO Central Perk | Friends LEGO Set
The greatest toy ever has teamed up with the greatest sitcom ever to create this LEGO reconstruction of Central Perk, the coffee house hangout from TV’s Friends. Ross, Chandler, Joey, Rachel, Monica and Phoebe are all there hanging out. Gunther is there too, creepily watching them from behind the coffee bar probably pretending in his head that he’s a part of the group.
Turn it around and there’s an exterior too, where you can have Phoebe sing Smelly Cat for money, or re-enact other great Friends moments like the one where… well you know what I’m talking about.
This is a 1070 piece set, which means it’s big enough to hold your interest but not so big that you’ll end up spending all your weekends hunched over a magnifying glass building Gunther’s couch when you’d rather be out spending time with your actual friends.
They’ll be there for you and now their Legos will be there for you too.
LEGO The Upside Down | Stranger Things
You like watching Stranger Things on Netflix, now try building Stranger Things on your coffee table. This 2200 piece Stranger Things LEGO set can flip between the real world and The Upside Down. When completed the set is a full 17 inches long!
For just under $200 you get the set and these 8 different Stranger Things minifigs: Demogorgon, Eleven, Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, Will Byers, Joyce Byers, and Chief Jim Hopper.
The Upside Down set is a complicated build, but worth it. And no one will ever know if you sit on your couch moving the characters around doing their voices.
The LEGO Disney Castle
With 4080 pieces, the Disney Castle LEGO set is not for the faint of heart. This is a massive undertaking, but also worth every second you’ll spend constructing it. It’ll cost just $350 to create your own Disney memories right on your kitchen table, but if you dive in you’ll get an incredibly detailed set, inside and out.
It’s a perfect replica of the Cinderella’s Castle you see when you walk in to Disneyland and it comes with 5 minifigures: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Tinkerbell.
When completed the LEGO Disney Castle measures a whopping 29 inches high and 18 inches wide. Clear out a space, you’ll want to keep this on display as a monument to your LEGO achievements forever.
LEGO Technic 4×4 Extreme Offroader
LEGOs aren’t just something you build and then set on a shelf, sometimes they’re something you can drive. This highly detailed 958 piece 4×4 Extreme Offroader comes with three motors and the ability to connect it to an app on your phone. When it’s finished you’ll be able to take it outside and test it on a variety of rough terrain via remote control.
Building it involves putting together not just LEGO bricks, but complex gear mechanisms which will teach you about real engineering. It costs a whopping $250 but remember you’re not just getting something you build here, but something that actually moves and rolls around when you’re done building it. Like all the Technic line of LEGO sets, this one will test your mind in a way no other type of LEGO set can.
Things To Know About Buying A Lego Set For Adults
We’ve spent a lot of time building LEGO sets like these here at GFR. Before you buy any LEGO set, consider these things.
How Many Pieces Is It? I cannot stress this enough! The more pieces a LEGO set has the harder it is to build and the longer it will take. If a LEGO set has thousands of pieces then plan to spend many, many hours constructing it.
Are You Interested In What You’re Building? LEGO makes LEGO versions of nearly anything you can think of. Whether you’re into Star Wars or Superheroes or architecture or anything except Star Trek (which is sadly licensed out to an inferior LEGO knockoff), they have it. So you might as well build something you love. There’s a LEGO set out there for everyone.
How Much Can You Spend? LEGO has a reputation for being expensive, and while some of the really big sets cost a lot of money, they make sets of all sizes and prices. You don’t have to spend $350 on the Disney LEGO castle, feel free to smart small with a $40 LEGO architecture set.
