Sasha Calle is set to take over a major role in the DC Extended Universe and will now be the first version of Supergirl we see on the big screen for this franchise. Though she won’t headline her own flick in her first appearance, that is on the way down the pike. Now, we are getting some of our first chances to see what the actress will look like in the character thanks to some new fan art that imagines Calle as Supergirl.

It’s obviously a very cool look for the new version of the character. Sasha Calle here has some of the classic reimaginings of the costume, in line somewhat with what we saw Henry Cavill don in Man of Steel and in other Justice League flicks along the way. Calle is soaring off into the cosmos and the backdrop with Cavill’s profile reinforces the idea that they are almost definitely aligned in this universe. Whether this is the look that sticks we’ll have to wait and see. I suspect that ultimately there are some differences when it’s said and done especially if the studio is looking for updated versions of the character.

Here’s another artist’s attempt to bring Sasha Calle’s Supergirl to life…

Few details are known about this version of Supergirl in the DC Universe besides that she’ll make her first appearance in The Flash which is set to come out late next year. So there’s plenty of time to iron out the details around the character and which version of Supergirl she’ll be playing. In the comics and in other live-action versions the character is Kara Zor-El, a cousin to Superman’s Kal-El. The origin story and character aliases have changed over the years though so that’s likely where we see some differences in this new story.

We likely won’t get the entire background for Sasha Calle as Supergirl in The Flash. That might be saved for another rumored movie which Giant Freakin Robot had the exclusive scoop on. That’s going to be Legion of Superheroes which will have her character in the lead. This is in place of a standalone Supergirl film and will likely work to introduce a number of other characters into the DC Universe. But apparently, Calle is the planned star of the film, the headliner so to speak.

Sasha Calle

Sasha Calle will represent the first Latina version of the Supergirl character in any form and appears part of DC’s continued push to add more diversity to their superhero lineup. We already know the plan is to recast the Henry Cavill Superman role with a black actor moving forward when JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates take over that character’s story in the next film.
This is a new age for the DC Extended Universe and they are working overtime to bring on a totally new lineup of characters while also recasting, what appeared to be, entrenched roles.

Besides the Superman news and Sasha Calle as Supergirl, we are also getting Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam and a rebooted version of Suicide Squad. Whether Zack Snyder’s Justice League is able to also cure some sins of the franchise’s past remains to be seen. But we are going to see a bunch of new faces in this universe going forward. Supergirl among them.
