Up until 2020, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were best known for their respective roles in Deadpool and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as well as their decades-long bromance. But it was late in the year when the duo announced that they would be joining together to drop $2.5 million to buy the third-oldest professional soccer club in the world, Wrexham. Now, with the success of the team on the up-and-up and their film and TV careers continuing to skyrocket, The Guardian reveals that Reynolds and McElhenney are off to the races as investors of the Alpine Formula One team, along with Marvel vet Michael B. Jordan.

As fans of football (or soccer as those of us uncultured U.S. fans call it) will know, the popularity and overall winning streak for Wrexham launched beyond anyone’s wildest dreams when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over.

Not only did they buy the team in hopes of restoring it to its former glory, but they also brought a camera crew along for the docuseries, Welcome To Wrexham. Now, Alpine has its fingers crossed that the celebs will boost their company as well.

For £157 million, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and a handful of other investors bought into the UK-based sports car company, taking a 24 percent slice of the ownership pie. Also included in the investing team is fellow actor, director, and producer Michael B. Jordan who may be best known for his work in the Creed and Black Panther franchises.

Like his fellow celebrity investors, Jordan also holds a stake in an English football team – AFC Bournemouth.

The story of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of Wrexham is a tale of fandom-turned-ownership as the two men saw more in the football club than it even knew it had. With no background in sports management, let alone ownership, both actors eagerly took on the learning curve of what it meant to step into the world of professional English football.

One thing they did understand is how to make a riveting production, and with cameras in hand, they shot the docuseries which showed the heart of not only the new owners but the team ready for another shot and the dedicated fans that have stuck with their beloved on-field reps.

With the incredible gains and push toward greatness that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were able to accomplish with their buyout of Wrexham, it’s no surprise that Alpine is excited to welcome them on board.

As of right now, no plans for a similar docuseries have been released, but with McElhenney, Reynolds, and Jordan all involved with the Formula 1 team, there’s a good chance cameras will be capturing something.

Even though they’re taking on the sports world, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney aren’t turning their backs on the dedicated fans following their every on-screen move. For McElhenney, he and the rest of the gang are celebrating the Season 16 arrival of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while Reynolds will soon be seen reprising his titular role in Deadpool 3.
