Peter Dinklage made a lasting impression on audiences as Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Fans of the actor have been wondering what his next major follow-up to the hit series would be. Well, we now know he is going to be headlining a remake of one of the nuttiest and out-there superhero movies ever made.

Deadline is reporting that Peter Dinklage is set to star in the remake of The Toxic Avenger, a 1984 superhero comedy film originally made by low budget schlock auteur Lloyd Kaufman and his Troma Entertainment outfit. The story centers around a character who ends up getting pushed into a vat of toxic waste and transforms into a superhuman mutant that has to become a hero. The assumption is that Dinklage will be playing the lead character.

It will be fascinating to see what Peter Dinklage will bring to this new version of The Toxic Avenger. The original movie is an over-the-top splatter film that became something of a notorious video rental back in the day. In all likelihood, this new take will err a little more on the side of accessibility, but it could very well attempt to be as outrageous as its predecessor. However, The Toxic Avenger has crossed over into more mainstream media with a cartoon series and a Marvel comic book in the past.

A big question regarding this news is how prominent Peter Dinklage will be in this new version of The Toxic Avenger. In the original film, the person that gets pushed into the toxic waste is played by one actor while the mutated superhero version is played by another. Will Peter Dinklage only be playing the pre-mutated version of the character? It will be very interesting to see how his role plays out in this reimagining.

And once again, it is unclear if this Peter Dinklage version of The Toxic Avenger will be as R-rated as the original or potentially strive to reach a wider audience by being a little less maniacal. The Toxic Avenger has proven to be a resilient franchise. There are three sequels to the original film and the property has even spawned a well-received stage musical version. As of now, we don’t know if director Macon Blair plans to go gonzo with the remake or possibly turn it into something easier to swallow for wider audiences.

Regardless of what tonal route the movie takes, it is exciting to hear that Peter Dinklage will be starring in this new version of The Toxic Avenger. The 51-year-old actor is a welcome presence in any production, and his inclusion shows that the filmmakers want to make a movie with actors people will recognize and want to see. This isn’t Dinklage’s first superhero rodeo either. He played a pivotal antagonist role in X-Men: Days of Future Past and also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War. This time, it looks like he will be getting the chance to be the hero at the center of it all. We can’t wait to see it.
