Namor Returning To Marvel Sooner Than Expected?

It looks like Namor will be making another Marvel appearance, this time in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

For longtime comic fans, seeing a live-action Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a real treat, especially since he has been around since 1939. And while it may have felt like forever waiting for this character’s live-action debut, it looks like we won’t need to wait for nearly that long to see him again. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness said that he was “excited to write Namor,” hinting that everyone’s favorite underwater badass (sorry, fans of the awful-looking Aquaman 2) would be making an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Unfortunately, Loveness didn’t elaborate in the interview about how much of Namor we would be seeing or exactly what kind of role he would play. However, Marvel is pushing hard for Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror to be the next Thanos-level Big Bad, with multiple movies and shows all leading up to a major confrontation between good and evil.

And since the original comic that The Kang Dynasty takes its name from involves Kang taking over planet Earth, it seems reasonable that multiple heroes would have to band together to fight him. This could include Namor (unless he has his own agenda, of course).

Interestingly, Jeff Loveness might be uniquely suited to write for this character, and his passion for Namor is quite evident in his writing credits for the controversial show Rick and Morty. While some fans have rankled at Marvel hiring Rick and Morty writers to bring its multiversal madness to life, those fans need to sit back and watch the confusingly-titled fifth season premiere episode “Mort Dinner Rick Andre.

That episode centers on a blatant Namor ripoff named Mr. Nimbus who fancies himself Rick’s chief rival. And if Loveness can give the MCU’s Namor some of that humor and charm, the character will be in good hands. Plus, after the lukewarm reception to Thor: Love and Thunder, it might be good for Marvel to let someone other than Taika Waititi handle writing superhero comedy.

Perhaps the most exciting part about Namor popping up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is that we don’t necessarily know whose side he will choose. Wakanda Forever ended with the underwater antihero making an uneasy alliance with Wakanda. This would seem to imply that he would help to fight a threat to the planet as ominous as Kang. However, he also promised his cousin Namora that the alliance would help them eventually conquer the surface world. It’s entirely possible Namor would enter into a partnership with Kang once he realizes they have similar goals.

We won’t know exactly what Namor is or isn’t doing in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty until that movie drops on May 2, 2025. By then, the entire face of the MCU could be different, and that may change how Namor is portrayed. At this point, though, we’d simply be happy if he didn’t pop up as a bad CGI MODOK, and if he ever saw how bad Quantumania’s effects looked, we’re confident Namor would write the surface world a check because he feels so sorry for us.
