Breaking News In Yuba County Mila Kunis Allison Janney

It’s been three years since Mila Kunis was the star of a major comedy, with 2018’s The Spy Who Dumped Me being her last big role. But now, Mila Kunis is part of a new ensemble comedy called Breaking News in Yuba County, a wild new film about murder, celebrity, and lies.

Allison Janney stars as Sue Bottoms, who finds her husband, Carl – played by Matthew Modine – in bed with another woman. The shock of the incident causes Carl to have a heart attack and die, which leads Sue to bury her husband. Sue reports her husband missing, which makes a celebrity of sorts in her Yuba County, but the further she keeps up her lie, the further in trouble Sue becomes. Sue also tries to keep the truth from her sister, Nancy – played by Mila Kunis – a local news reporter who needs a good story to cover.

Allison Janney and Mila Kunis are just part of an ensemble that includes Regina Hall, Awkwafina, Orange is the New Black’s Samira Wiley, Trainwreck’s Bridget Everett, Westworld’s Jimmi Simpson, Juliette Lewis, Clifton Collins Jr., Ellen Barkin, and Wanda Sykes. Breaking News In Yuba Country comes from director Tate Taylor, who previously made 2011’s The Help, 2014’s Chadwick Boseman-starring Get On Up, 2016’s The Girl on the Train, 2019’s Ma, and last year’s Ava, with Jessica Chastain.

Mila Kunis has been keeping mostly quiet these last few years. Since The Spy Who Dumped Me, her only other major film role was as a voice in the animated film Wonder Park. Kunis also starred alongside Glenn Close and Stephen Root in Four Good Days, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020, but doesn’t look to have received a release of any sort yet. Beyond that, Kunis continues to voice Meg on Family Guy, and recently appeared in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm as herself, as well as Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s music video for “Stuck with U.”

While Breaking News In Yuba Country director Tate Taylor has already established himself with a string of popular films, it looks as though the film’s writer, Amanda Idoko is on her way to becoming a writer to watch. Warner Bros. is apparently working on developing a movie centered on Plastic Man, and have brought on Amanda Idoko as writer. Since this news occurred back in 2018, it’s possible nothing is happening with this project, but considering Warner Bros. wanted to work with her based on the then-unproduced screenplay for Breaking News In Yuba County, that shows she has some promise, one that can attract the likes of Allison Janney and Mila Kunis.

Breaking News In Yuba County looks like an enjoyably insane film, and with a great ensemble cast full of Awkwafina, Allison Janney, Mila Kunis, and others, it will be fun to watch bad people do bad things. Breaking News In Yuba County is coming from American International Pictures, MGM’s label for films that will receive limited theatrical releases or straight to digital platforms, so it’s not clear how the film will be distributed. Whatever format it comes out in, Breaking News In Yuba County comes out on February 12, 2021.
