Retribution

Proving all over again that he’s the man you’d want in charge of saving you and your loved ones, a trailer has just dropped for Liam Neeson’s latest action-packed flick, Retribution, and it does not disappoint. Packed with explosions, high-speed stakes, and a distorted yet threatening voice, the trailer, which you can see below, teases that the Taken franchise star is back and ready to kick butt.

Opening on a normal day, the first moments of the trailer introduce us to Liam Neeson’s Matt Turner who is in a car with his kids, played by Jack Champion (Scream VI, Avatar: The Way of Water) and Lilly Aspell.

When his phone rings – with the ominous tone of “Row Row Row Your Boat” – Matt picks it up only to hear a menacing and distorted voice on the other end. Calling him by name, the mysterious dialer tells Matt that there’s a bomb under his seat, and that’s when the Retribution trailer really takes off.

Annoyed at whoever is playing a prank on him, Matt hangs up, only to have a car on the side of the road going up in an explosion. Learning that he and his kids are trapped in the car with pressure triggers controlling the bombs, Liam Neeson’s character snaps into action, trying to understand the reason behind his life-threatening situation.

As the madman seeks Retribution, Matt clashes with law enforcement, his past, and even his family as he tries to get out from under the mysterious caller’s grasp.

Retribution

Along with Liam Neeson, Jack Champion, and Lilly Aspell, Retribution also stars Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Modine, Noma Dumezweni, and Arian Moayed. The film comes from director Nimród Antal who previously helmed productions including The Whiskey Bandit, “Metallica: Through the Never”, and Predators.

If the plot of Retribution sounds familiar to you, it may be because you’ve seen it before in the 2015 Spanish film, El desconocido, with Antal’s project acting as a remake.

From the look of the trailer, Liam Neeson is sticking close to his role of father ready to give everything to save his family – a part that we’ve seen him in many times before in titles like the aforementioned Taken franchise.

A huge name in the world of thrillers, Neeson also holds credits in similar pulse-pounding films including Chloe, Batman Begins, The Commuter, and Cold Pursuit. In fact, Retribution follows a similar 2022 lineup of films that saw the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace star appearing in titles such as Blacklight, Memory, and Marlowe.

As for what’s next for Liam Neeson, fans have even more than Retribution to look forward to for his 2023 film release schedule. His followers can also expect to see him stepping back into his roots in the Irish thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Hans Petter Moland’s drama thriller Thug, and opposite Joe Keery in Jonny Campbell’s thriller Cold Storage.
