Liam Neeson

Renowned action star Liam Neeson is heading to the big screen once again. This time around, the 69-year-old Hollywood veteran won’t be protecting his teenage daughter like he famously did in Taken. Instead, Neeson will be beating up the bad guys all in the name of his granddaughter. As Blacklight ramps up to display the Irish native’s deadly skills once again, the recent release of the film’s first trailer sets the stage for what is sure to be a deadly Grandpa brawl.

Chocked full of plenty of fist fights, guns, high-speed chases, and exploding cars, Liam Neeson once again takes on the role of a deadly killer with a softer core. “I know I wasn’t a great father, but I’d like to be the best grandfather I can be”, his character confesses as he questions his life work. “Are you a good guy?” his sweet granddaughter asks him in one scene, to which he answers, “I wanna be.” Blacklight looks to be a timely action thriller that will surely resonate with plenty of current issues we see plastered across news headlines. And although it would be easy to watch Liam Neeson as a deadly assassin in any scenario, the plot seems promising enough to possibly deliver the Oscar-nominated actor a running for plenty of accolades.

Blacklight was written by Nick May and directed by Mark Williams. The film is being distributed by Briarcliff Entertainment, the same company that released Neeson thrillers Honest Thief and The Marksman. The story follows Liam Neeson as Travis, a Federal agent involved in secret federal programs. Often tasked with helping undercover agents out of trouble or dangerous situations. But as things take a turn, Travis begins to question his life’s work as he makes a troubling discovery. The film’s official synopsis states that after an agent is killed infiltrating a group of espousing violent societal upheaval, Travis discovers Operation Unity–an organization taking out citizens for reasons known only to Travis’ boss, FBI chief Robinson. To unravel the truth, Travis teams up with a journalist. But when his past and present collide, his family gets caught in the crosshairs–sending Liam Neeson once again on the journey of his life to save his family.

While he is easily recognized today as being one of the most sought-after leads in action thrillers, Liam Neeson didn’t climb to the top of action roles before his breakthrough performance over a decade ago in Taken. Ever since then, the 69-year-old has been busy slaying baddies in some of the most entertaining ways. The upcoming action film will find Liam Neeson joined by an ensemble cast including Tim Draxl, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Taylor John Smith, and Aidan Quinn. Set to land in theatres on February 11th, Blacklight isn’t the only film fans can see Liam Neeson star in this year. And, if fans can’t get enough of Neeson’s skills in Blacklight, the actor will appear in another action film this year alongside Guy Pearce and Monica Bellucci. Martin Campbell’s Memory will debut in theatres on April 29th. Based on the novel De Zaak Alzheimer by Jef Geeraerts, Neeson will play an expert assassin with a reputation for discreet precision.
