Kumail Nanjiani Eternals

Eternals was originally supposed to release this weekend, and despite that, there’s still little information we know about the latest group to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We now have to wait until next year, on November 5, 2021 for Eternals, but a new leak offers us our first look at what Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden and the rest of this team will look like.

Coming from the Twitter account @ETERNALSnews, we have seen our first glimpse at some of these new characters. The below photo shows what looks to be French promotional sticker book for kids. On the first page, there’s a group shot of the Eternals that is obscured. However, rising above them is Ikaris, which will be played by Richard Madden. The illustration shows Madden in what looks like a blue suit with a medallion on his chest.

Next to the covered cast photo is a blurb in French, but when translated reads, “Here are the Eternals. The Eternals are a species of immortal aliens coming from a far away planet who arrived on Earth thousands of years ago. These superheroes have been protecting humanity since the beginning of time.”

On the opposite page, we get a fantastic shot of what Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo will look like in Eternals. Kingo’s purple outfit looks to match the one worn by Ikaris, complete with a symbol in the middle of his chest. These outfits look like a cross between something worn by a Mortal Kombat character and the outfit worn by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. This makes sense, since Thanos is a Mutant Eternal, at least in the comics.

The final image gives us our first real look at the Eternals in a group shot. While the animated take on the Eternals might be a bit difficult to decipher, some of the main cast can clearly be made out. Working from the left seems to be Lia McHugh as Sprite, Kumail Nanjiani’s Ikaris, Brian Tyree Henry’s blue character Phastos, Don Lee’s Giglamesh, and Gemma Chan’s Sersi.

Clearly in the front of this Eternals shot is Richard Madden’s Ikaris. Next to him on the right looks to be Salma Hayek’s Ajak, Angelina Jolie’s Thena, Barry Keoghan as Druig, and Lauren Ridloff as Makkari. Not shown in any of these promotional images is Kit Harington as Black Knight.

Eternals is one of three movies Marvel already has in post-production and will be a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 2021 Phase Four films. Next year, Marvel will first release Black Widow on May 7, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on July 9. After Eternals releases on November 5, Marvel will release their final film of 2021 with the third Spider-Man film.

Of course, all of this is subject to change, but Eternals director Chloé Zhao will be releasing her new film Nomadland early next month. Zhao’s Nomadland is already earning Oscar buzz for lead actress Frances MacDormand and for Zhao as writer and director, even before her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
