Is James Gunn listening right now? In a recent interview with Esquire, Kevin Bacon shared more details about what his life is like, between singing to goats on social media during the pandemic and his attempts to revisit Tremors. While being famous must always be odd, Bacon’s had some particularly unique experiences since becoming a cultural phenomenon with the Six Degrees game. Still, he was apparently very surprised when sitting in a movie theater watching Guardians of the Galaxy and hearing his name mentioned. He’s worked with director and writer James Gunn before. Is the director interested in bringing Kevin Bacon on for real? Because he’s ready.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie has many memorable scenes, but Kevin Bacon is mentioned in one of the most memorable. It’s the scene where Gamora tells him that she will not succumb to his pelvic sorcery. It’s classic, it’s hilarious, and it all starts off with Star-Lord telling Gamora about a, “A great hero, named Kevin Bacon….”. He proceeds to tell the story of the movie Footloose in the way only Star-Lord can, and says that the moral of the story is that music, and dancing, save people. You can watch the tree minute scene below. It’s a Marvel classic moment.

When Kevin Bacon was in the theater seeing this for the first time, he had a surreal moment for sure. He said, “I was like, ‘Holy shit. They’re talking about me. Are you guys getting this?’”

The actor has worked with James Gunn before on the movie Super released in 2010. Apparently, Jean-Claude van Damme was supposed to play that part but when he backed out, Kevin Bacon landed the role. This means that Gunn has Bacon’s contact info. Esquire asked him if he’d be up for a cameo in the third Guardians of the Galaxy, to which the actor immediately replied that he would love to be a part of that. Hopefully, James Gunn is listening.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The director and writer was fired from Marvel after some controversy, signed on at DC for The Suicide Squad, and is now on track to begin work on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 soon. He has said that the script he wrote for the movie hasn’t changed since before he was fired. The writer and director chooses all of the songs for the famous soundtracks to the movies very carefully and has a close eye for detail. He may not be the most amenable to changes to his script, but surely he can work in a cameo for Kevin Bacon. There is something that’s just too much fun about imagining Gamora reacting to meeting the Kevin Bacon of legend. Star-Lord’s eyes bugging out. Cheesy? Yeah. Worth it? Totally.

If nothing else, the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game would get more fun with a Marvel Cinematic Universe entry to the game.

What is Kevin Bacon up to these days when he isn’t vying for Marvel roles? He’s being challenged by The Backstreet Boys to rewrite pop songs with goat puns and then sing them to his goats. Entertainers have found new ways to bring audiences laughs while trapped at home during the pandemic, and it gets weird.
