Depp V Heard

Just a little over one year since their case made headlines daily, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are at it again. This time, the tale behind the exes’ court case is raking in different kinds of numbers as a Netflix mini-series, titled Depp V Heard, currently sits at the number one position on the streamer, according to both FlixPatrol and Samba TV. An in-depth look at how fame, celebrity, and the media can affect a trial, the production is a must-watch for anyone who found themselves glued to the case last year.

For those who stayed willfully ignorant of the court battle that took place in Virginia over six weeks in the spring of 2022, actor Johnny Depp and actress Amber Heard duked it out in front of a judge and jury over a defamation suit.

As the docuseries points out, the legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was an incredibly messy one with each party trying to prove their case while finding holes in the other’s story.

Following a 2018 op-ed piece in which the former believed the latter was slandering his name, both sides busted out their attorneys and took it to the law. While Depp was never mentioned by name in said op-ed, he believed that the piece heavily implied that he was the abusive partner that Heard was describing.

Through being dubbed an abuser, whether or not he was named one in his ex’s op-ed, Johnny Depp claimed that he lost a slew of work in Hollywood, including his long-running role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

During this time, the Edward Scissorhands star says that he became a pariah in the entertainment business, with no one wanting to work with him. Seeing no other way to get back on his feet, Depp took Amber Heard to court to prove once and for all that he was an innocent man.

As the docuseries points out, the legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was an incredibly messy one with each party trying to prove their case while finding holes in the other’s story. For those who followed the ex’s legal proceedings closely, you won’t find new information when it comes to inside looks into the courtroom. Using what was already live-streamed, the major shift is how both sides present their evidence with the production giving side-by-side comparisons to the two stories.

But, again, if you’re someone who followed the proceedings closely while they were going on, there’s going to be very few pieces of new information surrounding the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard case.

There are, however, some interesting things to be said about how the media and public opinion perhaps swayed the case as well as a very damning bit of evidence (for Depp) that wasn’t presented to jurors.

The Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard case turned many fans of both performers into armchair detectives, with the case being a divisive one for the entire fan community. Longtime fans of The Nightmare on Elm Street star didn’t believe his ex-wife’s claims of physical and emotional abuse, while victims’ rights movements pushed for Heard’s story to be taken seriously.

The court sessions were brutal with not only professionals analyzing every word coming from the defense and prosecution’s mouths but also those with absolutely no legal experience tuning in from home.

Amber Heard And Johnny Depp Today

By the end of the case, both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were held liable for defamation with each party owing money to the other. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp has begun to make his return to the industry through Maïwenn’s historical drama, Jeanne du Barry.

As for Heard, she faced a lot of fan rage with many asking DC to remove her from the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As of right now, she’s still expected to appear in the film that comes out later this year.

But for now, you can catch up on the trial by watching Depp V Heard on Netflix.
