Jason Blum has gone on record stating that the Jamie Foxx-starring Spawn reboot will be coming out in 2025, according to ComicBook.com. Though we’ve been waiting for a reboot since the original Spawn movie came out in 1997, and the current iteration that we’re waiting for has had a troubled development, Blum did not mince his words when he all but guaranteed that we’ll see the reboot we’ve been dying to see within a couple of years.

Blumhouse Productions founder Jason Blum says Spawn, starring Jamie Foxx, will hit theaters by 2025.

Now that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have come to an end, we can only hope that no further issues get in the way of the highly anticipated adaptation of the Todd McFarlane comic of the same name.

Though we all know that the strikes halted Hollywood productions all summer until a resolution was made on September 27, Jamie Foxx’s health issues were another roadblock to the production of the Spawn reboot. Foxx suffered from a stroke earlier this year and has kept a low profile while recovering from the health scare. But it’s been reported that his recovery will allow him to act in the film.

Though it remains to be seen what kind of accommodations Jamie Foxx may need given his health issues, his name is still attached to the Spawn reboot at this time.

While the original 1997 version wasn’t without its charm, it didn’t perform well critically, garnering a 17 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Thematically speaking, we’re still not in the know about what direction the Spawn Reboot will take. Todd McFarlane, the creator of the original Spawn comic books, wanted his script to be for a darker, low-budget, gritty film that would “make children cry.” But after a number of rewrites, it seems like McFarlane and Blumhouse Productions are now trying to up the ante and utilize the talent of other A-list actors like Jamie Foxx with the intention of putting out the next big blockbuster.

In an ideal world, the Spawn reboot will pay proper tribute to the comic books that inspire it, but also branch off into new territory.

Hopefully the Jamie Foxx starring Spawn reboot will cast a wide enough net to win over diehard comic book fans and casual movie fans alike. While the original 1997 version wasn’t without its charm, it didn’t perform well critically, garnering a 17 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But as ill-fated as the Michael Jai White and John Leguizamo starring film was back in 1997, it still served as a suitable proof of concept during a time when comic book movies were fewer and further between by today’s standards.

In an ideal world, the Spawn reboot will pay proper tribute to the comic books that inspire it but also branch off into new territory. Given Jamie Foxx’s background on both the comedic and dramatic front, he has everything he needs to be the perfect anti-hero. And while we don’t want to get our hopes up, we’d love to see John Leguizamo reprise his role as the Violator from the original movie, a role he said he had a lot of fun playing.

While we’re still waiting on further developments for the Jamie Foxx-starring Spawn reboot, it sounds like McFarlane and Blum are ready to hit the ground running with their script and give us what we want some time in 2025.
