Invincible Season 2 Big Bad, Angstrom Levy, Explained

Angstrom Levy in Invincible

While Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) faced off against fearsome foes like the Flaxons and Battle Beast in the first season of Invincible, the ultimate big bad of the season was his own father, Omni-Man (JK Simmons). While we will undoubtedly be seeing more of Omni-Man in Season 2, the main antagonist that Mark Grayson will be facing this time is the villain Angstrom Levy, voiced by Sterling K. Brown. While most fans were speculating this would be the case, it was confirmed that the villain would be the primary antagonist by Invincible creator Robert Kirkman in an interview with Collider.

Angstrom Levy Brings The Multiverse To Invincible

It seems like even Invincible can’t avoid the recent multiverse trend that seems to be the flavor of the moment in comic book films and shows. Angstrom Levy is a mad scientist who uses portals to jump around dimensions and gain as much knowledge as possible by speaking to every variant of himself in the multiverse. However, Mark Grayson interrupts this process, leading to Levy swearing revenge against him and relentlessly trying to ruin Grayson’s life.

The multiverse plot of Invincible Season 2 and Angstrom Levy are far from thematically random, as one of Levy’s tactics to ruin Grayson’s life is by bringing different versions of Mark in from other universes where he sided with Omni-Man and embraced the Viltrumite mission to conquer Earth. After the earth-shaking finale of Season 1, Levy’s tactics will shake Mark further as he deals with his father’s evil nature and his own potential to become evil. The fact that the always-talented Sterling K. Brown is providing the voice for this imposing nemesis is just icing on the cake.

The Origin Of Angstrom Levy

As Invincible often does with its villains, Angstrom Levy isn’t introduced as an outright evil character you can’t sympathize with. In fact, Levy’s original intentions are to help humanity by gaining more knowledge through multiversal travel, but his encounter with Mark Grayson leaves him horribly injured and disfigured. These injuries drive the once noble scientist mad with rage and lead to his obsession with revenge against Mark.

While it seems like nothing can top the emotional and physical devastation that Mark Grayson faced in the first season of Invincible, it certainly seems like Angstrom Levy might find a way to push those limits even more. After all, reckoning with the fact that your father is an evil conqueror is one thing, but reckoning with the fact you could end up like that father is arguably just as bad. We’ll have to see how Mark deals with this when Season 2 hits Amazon Prime Video.

The Cast Of Invincible Season 2

Along with Yeun and Simmons, the second season of Invincible will feature the returning cast of Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Seth Rogen. Along with Sterling K Brown as Angstrom Levy, the newcomers to the cast include Tatiana Maslany, Daveed Diggs, Peter Cullen, Cliff Curtis, Calista Flockhart, Scoot McNairy, Lea Thompson, and Ben Schwartz. You can catch the new season on November 3, and you can stream the recently released Atom Eve special in the meantime.
