Gina Carano might still be mired in a bit of controversy, but her The Mandalorian colleagues still appear to have her back in it all

Gina Carano and her The Mandalorian saga continues. The embattled actress, who plays one of the more kick-ass fighters around (after being, well an actual kick-ass fighter) is dealing with a conflict off the screen that could affect her job on the show going forward. Though things look dicey on whether her character returns next season, other actors on the show are coming out to voice their support for the actress. Carl Weathers recently came out to get the actress’s back in this latest dustup. Check out what he had to say on Twitter:

Carl Weathers lending clear support for Gina Carano is an interesting, and frankly, welcome, backing for the actress who’s still at the center of some controversy around recent remarks she’s made on social media. There’s some speculation she won’t be returning to The Mandalorian for its third season because of these stances though it appears at least her colleagues would welcome her back if it came to that.

The controversy around Gina Carano stems from comments she’s made on social media in recent months around a variety of topics that clearly have rubbed folks the wrong way. The first round of them was around possible election fraud issues as well as deriding a mask-wearing society in the middle of the pandemic. She continued not too long after continuing to take digs at mask-wearers. Whether this was just your standard star trolling of a fanbase or a legitimate opinion by Carano isn’t clear.

But since, even after being at the center of a cancel culture wave because of her *opinions*, she instead doubled-down on the comments. Gina Carano not only refused to apologize but instead she didn’t plan to back off her tone, saying, “I’m going to stick around. If my presence bothers you, OK…”

This led to a considerable backlash from fans who wanted her removed from season 3 of The Mandalorian. Though it doesn’t appear that those actually associated with the show want her gone. Carl Weathers wasn’t the only fellow actor who came to back up Gina Carano. Show star Pedro Pascal also lent some support on social media as well, praising Carano for being “indomitable” when he was firing off some promotional material on Instagram:

Additionally, there were some rumors that even The Mandalorian creator and showrunner Jon Favreau is fine bringing her back to the show. Those rumors had him as apolitical and not really caring which direction the talent’s opinions lean.

And rumors definitely heated up last week when some new art for The Mandalorian Season 3 released and Gina Carano was conspicuously absent. You can see from the picture that they chose to flank Mando with Carl Weather’s Greef Karga and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano on the “good” side with Carano nowhere to be seen. This led many to speculate that she might be indeed seeing her ouster from the show when it returns.

Which direction this all takes with Gina Carano remains to be seen. From a story perspective, it would suck to see Cara Dune leave the show. We’ll just have to wait until final decisions are made for the next season of The Mandalorian.
