Elijah Wood Speaks Out Against Lord Of The Rings Reboot
Elijah Wood expresses concern that the upcoming Lord of the Rings reboot is happening just for the sake of making a buck.
As we get ready for more The Lord of the Rings films, Elijah Wood has spoken out to share his thoughts and concerns. With Warner Bros Discovery joining New Line Cinema to lead the development, he is concerned that the reboot may only be created for profit, rather than for passion. Amongst his concerns, the actor is still excited about the concept, according to The Hollywood Report.
Elijah Wood hopes that the new The Lord of the Rings films will be good, but we are cautiously skeptical about the rebooted series. Since the original three films—The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003)—were so well done and created such a passionate fanbase, it’s hard to imagine that a new series could replicate that excitement. But perhaps audiences will be pleasantly surprised by a successful reboot, like the new Star Wars films and Rise of the Planet of the Apes series.
If the new tv series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is any indication of what we will see from the new films, then we can expect something that’s good but not great. With one season down and another in production, the Amazon series has received an 83 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.9 out of 10 rating from IMDb users.
One of the many reasons why the original The Lord of the Rings films were so successful was because of the director and producer behind them: Peter Jackson. The New Zealand filmmaker brought the fantasy world from J.R.R. Tolkien’s books to life with the epic trilogy that still captivates audiences. His hard work and dedication helped the three films gross $2.9 billion and win a staggering 17 Oscars.
After his success with The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson went on to direct and produce the Hobbit trilogy starring Martin Freeman. The films were also based on J.R.R. Tolkien books. While the Hobbit films weren’t as widely successful as the original The Lord of the Rings films, they still grossed nearly $3 billion from the box office, which is certainly a success for any film studio.
There is hope that Peter Jackson will join Warner Bros Discovery and New Line Cinema for the reboot of the series, though we aren’t sure how involved he will be in the production. If all goes well, then we may see yet another high-grossing franchise rather than an epic fail.
When asked if Elijah Wood would come back to The Lord of the Rings for the new films, he said that he would be down to reprise his role of Frodo. The 42-year-old actor has already reprised his character in the 2012 film Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if he came back once again. Currently, he is staying busy with his role of Walter in the Showtime tv series Yellowjackets and will appear in the upcoming films The Toxic Avenger, Bookworm, and L.A. Rush.
