The 1994 animated feature, The Lion King, is returning to theaters for Disney’s 100th anniversary celebration. The Academy Award-winning film will play in cinemas for two weeks, from September 29 to October 12, Collider reports. Decades later, it remains one of Disney’s most iconic and beloved animated movies.

The Lion King tells the story of Simba, a young lion cub destined to be king of the Pride Lands. However, after a tragic event involving the death of his father, Mufasa, Simba runs away, leaving the Pride Lands in the hands of Scar, his uncle. The young lion cub eventually finds a home with a meerkat and warthog named Timon and Pumbaa.

As years pass, an adult Simba comes to the rescue of Timon and Pumbaa when they are threatened by a hungry lioness, who turns out to be Simba’s childhood friend, Nala.

However, he eventually crosses paths with Rafiki, who tells him the spirit of his father, the previous lion king, lives within him.

Later, Simba receives a visit from Mufasa’s spirit, compelling him to accept his destiny. With Rafiki’s counsel to learn from the past instead of fleeing from it, Simba resolves to return to the Pride Lands.
