Deadpool 3 is the one and only MCU film in 2024, so there are a lot of expectations riding on it. Fortunately, it seems like the film is bringing back a lot of elements that worked from the previous Deadpool film, including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa. However, don’t expect the relationship between her and Ryan Reynolds’ titular character to stay stagnant.
She recently told Screen Rant, “So I think that the franchise and Ryan and the director, they’ve done a really great job of always reinventing that relationship and making it interesting, but maintaining the core thing that keeps them always coming back to each other,” adding, “So I think there’s a little bit more of that in this film.”
Playing Wade Wilson’s Girlfriend
Morena Baccarin has also confirmed that she completed filming Deadpool 3, so it’ll be interesting to see where they take her character in a film that already seems to be jam-packed. Vanessa was introduced in the first Deadpool as Wade Wilson’s girlfriend, who gave the Merc with a Mouth a more sensitive side while also bringing her own engaging storyline to the table. Although Vanessa was killed in Deadpool 2, Wade was able to use Cable’s powers to go back in time and prevent her death from happening, setting up her return for the upcoming film.
Fans have loved Morena Baccarin in the role, and the rumors are indicating that her role might be bigger than ever in Deadpool 3. Rumors indicate that Vanessa could end up becoming the hero Copycat, like her comic-book counterpart. Copycat is a mutant from Marvel comics who has the ability to shapeshift and mimic the powers of other mutants.
Introducing Mutants Into The MCU
Given the fact that Deadpool 3 seems like it will be the most mutant-heavy film in the MCU yet, now would be a perfect time for Vanessa to become Copycat. The MCU has been very timid with its use of mutants since acquiring the X-Men film rights with Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox. We’ve seen brief cameos in the form of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, but it seems likely that Deadpool 3 will be fully diving into the mutant deep end.
Wolverine In Deadpool 3
This is evidenced by the fact that Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, essentially becoming the co-lead of the film. This will be the first time that Wolverine has made an appearance in the MCU since Deadpool is now officially an MCU franchise. The film seems like it will be dipping into the multiverse, so it’s possible that this film could properly introduce the X-Men to the ongoing MCU storyline.
Deadpool 3 Releases In 2024
Not much is known about the plot of Deadpool 3 at this point, though the synopsis says that Deadpool and Wolverine will have to team up to defeat a common enemy. The rumors have slowly and gradually been leaking about the film in recent months, but the MCU will undoubtedly keep the biggest surprises under wraps as long as possible. In any case, we’ll get to find out how Deadpool 3 will change the MCU at large when the film hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
