Deadline reported that Stranger Things and Elvis star Dacre Montgomery and Phantom Thread star Vicky Krieps have been tapped to star in the new ghost story film Went Up a Hill for Causeway Films. Went Up a Hill will be directed by Samuel Van Grinsven with a script that he co-wrote with Jory Anast. POP Film is also on to produce along with Causeway Films.

Went Up a Hill is in the pre-production stages and will star Dacre Montgomery as Jack, who goes to his estranged mother’s funeral in New Zealand and meets Jill (Krieps), his mother’s widow. Things take a turn when his mother’s ghost possesses their bodies, using them to speak to each other. This will be director Samuel Van Grinsven’s second feature film following his acclaimed debut Sequin in A Blue Room.

Dacre Montgomery is best known for his role as Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things. He had a much smaller role in the most recent season, he made appearances in dream and flashback scenes. It remains to be seen if he’ll be returning for the show’s final season.

Most recently, Dacre Montgomery can be seen in the Austin Butler-starring Elvis, where he played real-life film producer and director Steve Binder. Elvis is currently streaming on HBO Max. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann and also stars Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, Kelvin Harrison Jr, David Wenham, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Before we see Dacre Montgomery in Went Up a Hill, we should be seeing him in his next starring film role in Spider & Jessie. Spider & Jessie is directed and written by Dan Kay and is currently in the post-production stages. Along with Montgomery, the film also stars Mckenna Grace, Jesse Williams, Jojo Regina, Forrest Goodluck, Fernanda Andrade, and Malia Baker.

Spider & Jessie follows two sisters who conceal their mother’s body after an overdose to avoid being separated by the foster system. Grace and Williams serve as executive producers with Grace and Regina playing the title roles. There is no release date yet for Spider & Jessie or Went Up a Hill, so we’ll have to wait for more details to find out when we can see Dacre Montgomery on the screen again.

As for whether we can expect to see much of Dacre Montgomery in his best and most famous role as Billy in Stranger Things, it’s probably best we don’t get our hopes up too much. The Duffer Brothers have said that they’re avoiding adding new characters to the final season and that they would be focusing more on the “OG” characters. By “OG” characters, they presumably are referring to the series leads played by Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder.

Of course, we could definitely expect to see Dacre Montgomery in some more flashback scenes, as his sister Max (Sadie Sink) will likely be an integral part of the final season. You can stream all of Stranger Things on Netflix. There is no official release window for the final season yet, but we can likely expect to see it in 2023 or 2024.
