One Of The Best Crime Thriller Comics Ever Becoming TV Series

By April Ryder | Published

Crime thriller comic lovers are excited about the new show ordered for production by Amazon. Fans will have the chance to see one of the most beloved comic series, Criminal, on screen as early as next year.

For over 20 years, Brubaker and Phillips have created a superb collection of noir storytelling crime comics that have all been bestsellers.

Ed Brubaker (writer) and Sean Phillips (illustrator), creators of the comic series Criminal, have just been officially ordered to screen. Though the show has already been in the works for more than a year, there are still not many details available regarding the series.

No one really seems to know who will star/voice the characters in the on-screen version of Criminal, but Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have been winners in the realm of comic books for many years. It’s safe to trust that a collaborative project involving the two artists will come out looking great in the end.

For over 20 years, Brubaker and Phillips have created a superb collection of noir storytelling crime comics that have all been bestsellers, including Criminal, Fatale, Kill or Be Killed, and The Fade Out. The pair has created a whole library of graphic novels, and that library has been translated into more than a dozen different languages.

In his spare time, Brubaker has written various arcs for Marvel and DC Comic titles, including Batman, Catwoman, The Immortal Iron Fist, and Captain America.

Criminal is a comic series that engages the reader to take a moment to ponder on the cliches of the crime genre while still maintaining a realistic and believable position.

Though Criminal is a comic book series, Brubaker does have experience bringing his superior storytelling to the screen. He formerly worked on HBO’s Westworld as a supervising producer and assisted in the production of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Batman: Caped Crusader

In the world of comics, Brubaker is a force to be reckoned with. He has won numerous awards during his time on the scene, including five different “Best Writer” titles. He has won seven Eisner awards (the most prestigious, significant awards in the comics industry), including “Best New Series” for Criminal, throughout his career.

Sean Phillips and Ed Brubaker have been working together to create a whole world in their books for a very long time, and Amazon has now provided the opportunity and the platform for the pair to show the world what they can do on screen.

For those who aren’t familiar, Criminal is a comic series that engages the reader to take a moment to ponder on the cliches of the crime genre while still maintaining a realistic and believable position.

Brubaker also wrote Winter Soldier comics for Marvel and worked on the Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Each comic has its own story that is self-contained and focuses on different characters. All of the characters inhabit the same world, grew up in the same fictional Center City, go to the same bar, and come from a family laden with proficient crime masterminds and an overall outlaw vibe.

After so many years of developing the characters and the storyline behind the excellence of Criminal, bringing the series to life on screen is somewhat of a dream come true for creators Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. It will be exciting to see what the dream team can do with one of their most beloved crime series.
