Cobra Kai season 3

Cobra Kai has been exactly that dose of needed childlike glee we all needed in 2020. Today, Netflix has given us the Cobra Kai season 3 trailer to get excited about for 2021. Watch the full two and a half minute trailer below:

Cobra Kai season 3 sees Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) uniting to save the team against a greater enemy. They may have been fighting for 30 years, but they’ve got another long time adversary: John Kreese. You may remember him as the original bad guy in Karate Kid (1984). Kreese has has taken over Johnny Lawrence’s dojo and he has to be stopped.

The Cobra Kai season 3 trailer has the camera close in on walls covered in quotes. “Fear does not exist in this dojo.” Meanwhile, Kreese is teaching the kids that there is no right and wrong, no good and bad guys. This is contrasted by Daniel LaRusso telling a student that they are trying to be the good guys. It seems that together, Lawrence and LaRusso will figure out what that means, buddy cop style.

We also catch up with Miguel in the trailer. At the end of season 2, we left Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) in a coma. In Cobra Kai season 3, we’ll see Johnny Lawrence help him recover and then train again. Or possibly push him too hard until he comically hurts himself, as he does in the trailer.

One of the great things about Cobra Kai is how it can be enjoyed by people who never watched the Karate Kid films. At the same time, they make enough callbacks for fans of the movies to get excited. Better yet, they keep coming. In Cobra Kai season 3, we can expect to see Daniel LaRusso’s love interest, Kumiko (played by Tamlyn Tomita) return. We’ll also be seeing the antagonist from Karate Kid: Part 2, Chozen Toguchi.

Many were fans of the first two seasons of the series on YouTube Premium. When Netflix picked up the series for their 195 million subscribers, 50 million of those subscribers watched at least the first few minutes of the series within the first 28 days on Netflix. Within the show’s first week, it was in the top 10 shows on the streaming service. There’s been enough excitement about the series that even before Cobra Kai season 3 has aired, Netflix has promised another season

Actor Ralph Macchio, who plays Daniel LaRusso, had been pitched many ideas for a Karate Kid reboot over the years. He turned them all down in protection of his legacy. He said, “It was always easier to say no and protect the legacy because I’m very protective of it, and it was never smart enough.”

A new season with so many fresh ideas but returning fan favorites seems to be exactly smart enough. You’ll be able to watch Cobra Kai season 3 on Netflix January 8, 2021.
