Jurassic World: Dominion is one of the many Hollywood blockbusters to have its release date pushed back for pandemic-related reasons. It joined hotly anticipated movies such as Black Widow and No Time to Die on the list of films delayed over a year as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Now, though, we have our first official look at the third Jurassic World film, and it showcases the franchise’s leading man, Chris Pratt.

Empire Magazine has released an exclusive first look at Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady in the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion. Check it out below:

Jurassic World: Dominion will pick up where 2018’s Fallen Kingdom left off: with displaced dinosaurs unleashed upon the mainland and Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady faced with the unprecedented problem of wrangling them before they get too far.

Neither Jurassic World nor its sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, enjoyed critical acclaim by any means, but they each absolutely did their job: distract viewers for two hours with a “what if” scenario amounting to little more than bloodthirsty dinosaurs terrorizing people. Fallen Kingdom was particularly stupid-as was Chris Pratt’s role-, but I appreciated that it was willing to take the franchise in a bold-and unexpected-new direction. That, to me, translated to a fun moviegoing experience. Hopefully, Jurassic World: Dominion will piggyback off its predecessor’s fresh approach and deliver an action-adventure movie that’s just as wild and unpredictable. Thankfully, it looks like it will be blending the new with the familiar, because classic Jurassic Park characters such as Ian Malcolm, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Alan Grant are scheduled to make their highly anticipated returns in the belated sequel.

Directing Chris Pratt is Colin Trevorrow, the man behind the first Jurassic World film and the guy who almost brought us the final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Joining Pratt are returning franchise cast members Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, and BD Wong, as well as newcomers Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Campbell Scott, and DeWanda Wise. A pretty stacked cast, right?

In addition to his return as Owen Grady in Jurassic World: Dominion, Chris Pratt is also set to star in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, as well as in James Gunn’s highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the Thor-centric threequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. He will also headline the sci-fi thriller The Tomorrow War. Recently, Pratt appeared in Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, The Lego Movie: The Second Part, and in Pixar’s Onward.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Chris Pratt’s character in Jurassic World: Dominion. Maybe he will finally step aside and let Bryce Dallas Howard lead the show? She’s infinitely more likable and more charismatic anyway. Rumors are swirling that Owen Grady won’t make it out of the sequel alive, but it is the internet. Anyone can say or spread anything they want and we would be none the wiser.

You can catch Chris Pratt in Jurassic World: Dominion when it crashes into theaters on June 10, 2022.
