Chris Pine is one of those actors who can easily fit into so many desired roles. We saw him deliver a solid rendition of Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek franchise – which sadly looks to be over – and he was one of the best elements of Wonder Woman as pilot Steve Trevor. He will be reprising that role in Wonder Woman 1984, but there are plenty of other notable characters that fans want to see the actor play.

Case in point: the X-Men superhero, Cyclops. With Disney/Marvel now in full possession of the X-Men stable of characters, fans are eager to see who will be portraying some of these classic mutants. Chris Pine looks to be one of the contenders as far as fans are concerned. Instagram artist ApexForm recently posted what they think Pine could look like as the character. Take a look at their impression fan art right here:

The design for this riff on Chris Pine as Cyclops is most directly influenced by Jim Lee’s landmark redesign for the groundbreaking X-Men #1 from 1991. That comic went on to become the best-selling single-issue comic book ever. Jim Lee’s new costume design would also be used in the X-Men animated series that ran from 1992 to 1997. We saw a brief take on this costume at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, but the following film discarded that design.

Would Chris Pine make a good Scott Summers? He has certainly proven himself in other blockbuster franchise films, so there is no reason to think he would be terrible in the role. What is more crucial is what kind of part Cyclops would play once he finally is introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is often cast as the field commander of the X-Men and has had significant relationships with characters like Jean Grey and Emma Frost. Exactly how the Marvel Cinematic Universe decides to utilize him will be very intriguing. Will he be a main character or be relegated to supporting status as he has been in most of the other live-action X-Men films?

That would likely be a big factor in who gets to play the character in whatever project Disney/Marvel decides to put him in first. An actor like Chris Pine is probably not going to sign on for a role that isn’t getting significant time in the spotlight. If Cyclops ends up being sidelined for a lot of the foreseeable future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is more likely that the role will go to a less well-known (and frankly cheaper) actor. However, nabbing notable actors is a surefire way to garner attention for your project. So, at this point, anything is possible.

x-men fantastic four feature

Fans cannot wait to see what Disney/Marvel does with the X-Men when they finally make their first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is partially why they are fan-casting people like Chris Pine right now: they want to see anything they can. You can guarantee that when the X-Men finally do pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the internet is going to have a field day. And hey, they may be on the road to an epic showdown with another Marvel team.
