While we are getting treated to a bunch of new characters and stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we aren’t quite done with the original group just yet. While some folks have walked off into the superhero sunset, one of the original Avengers is getting another solo movie. And we have our first look at the poster for the upcoming film. Chris Hemsworth is featured in a Thor: Love and Thunder poster that appears to have been released a little earlier than planned.
Courtesy of the Twitter account @LoveThunderNews, a poster is making the rounds right now that was taken from a live display. By all accounts, this was the first official release poster though may have been placed before the intended timeline. Regardless, we get our first chance to see Chris Hemsworth reprising the role and this one has him with all the lightening-eyed fury we’ve gotten over the last couple of iterations. Check out the poster for Thor: Love and Thunder:
There’s definitely a rock n’ roll, neon-y vibe happening here which gives the sense that this will be a supercharged flick, playing well into the Thor: Love and Thunder name. First and foremost, Chris Hemsworth is front and center, back looking fit and fiddle after the events of Avengers: Endgame. He’s shed the Fat Thor look obviously though is now also apparently back out on his own without the Guardians of the Galaxy in tow. That’s where we last left the dude, arguing with Peter Quill.
And some other notables are featured on the Thor: Love and Thunder poster along with Chris Hemsworth. To his left is Korg who gets pretty big billing in this one considering his placement among the other characters. Comedically, this is one of the best characters the Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced. We also see a female Mighty Thor who will be played by Natalie Portman. She’s coming back to reprise her Jane Foster role. And we also get Tessa Thompson back as Valkyrie.
Not featured in the Thor: Love and Thunder poster with Chris Hemsworth will be other mainstays from the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Pom Klementieff are coming back as Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Groot, and Mantis respectively. There will be other franchise folks returning as well. Plus, Christian Bale is set to make his MCU debut, this time as the main antagonist/ villain. He’ll be playing Gorr the God Butcher in a role that could prove pretty formidable for this group of heroes.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder is set to make its way to the big screen next summer on July 8th. It will the eighth trip through the Marvel Universe for Chris Hemsworth. This one will follow up the wildly successful Thor: Ragnarok which reinvented the solo franchise for the character. It flipped the world more comedic and earned a whopping $854 million at the box office. There’s a chance this next movie tops that number and should be another massive blockbuster for the character and Hemsworth.
