When Bob Saget tragically and unexpectedly passed away back in January, it was a blow to the Hollywood and comedic community, to say the least. The actor and comedian was beloved in a number of different circles and the details of his passing rocked a number of different folks. Over the last couple of months more information has come out around what happened the night of his death and a number of different people in Hollywood have stepped up to honor the man. One of those events is actually now going to become a Netflix special with the streamer purchasing the rights to the show.

In an interview with Dystopia Tonight! With John Poveromo (via ComicBook.com), comedian and filmmaker Mike Binder discussed how an event that was held at The Comedy Store to honor Bob Saget was purchased by Netflix and will air on the streamer. The Bob Saget special doesn’t currently have a name, but there were a number of different celebrities and comedians who took part in the show. It was basically a who’s who of the industry with all kinds of folks showing up to honor the comedian who was obviously respected and revered.

The Bob Saget special went down not too long after his passing, and according to the reporting was also used to raise money for the Scleroderma Research Foundation which Bob Saget sat on the Board of Directors for over a nearly 20-year stretch. The event was hosted by Full House castmate and friend John Stamos as well as comedian Jeffrey Ross, and singer John Mayer. And the lineup was astounding featuring folks like Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Michael Keaton, Seth Green, Jon Lovitz, Paul Rodriguez, plus other members of the Full House crew like Jodie Sweetin were also on hand.

There isn’t currently a timetable for when Netflix will officially air this Bob Saget special, but it’s looking like it should live up to the comedian’s legacy with the names and talents that were involved in making it happen. It took place at the Comedy Store where Bob Saget had spent time honing his stand-up chops. Though the comedian gained fame for his family-friendly fare like Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos, his stand-up had a decidedly edgier and raunchier side to it.

Bob Saget passed away in his hotel room in Orlando, Florida on January 9th. While his death was shrouded in some mystery at first it was eventually determined by the local authorities that he had slipped in the bathroom and hit his head on the tile. When he gained consciousness, he allegedly laid down in bed but suffered from a subdural hematoma, a brain bleed that resulted in his passing. His family has since filed an injunction with local courts to block the release of further information surrounding his death. That was held up by a judge.

Bob Saget was one of the more beloved folks in the entertainment industry and his death certainly came as a major blow to his family, friends, and fans alike. It will be great to have him honored with this Netflix special.
