After nearly four decades of waiting, the fans of Tim Burton’s iconic Beetlejuice are finally receiving a sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The movie that has spent decades in development hell was officially announced in February 2022, and Warner Bros just dropped another preview trailer as part of their campaign to hype up the movie during the time leading to its release.

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer shows us plenty of new stuff and some of the oldies-but-goldies as Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara reprise their iconic roles from the original film.

…how easily Michael Keaton slipped back into his eponymous role in the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie, with many commenting that the actor looks like he hasn’t changed one bit since his last portrayal in 1988.

There are also new cast members, such as the ever-rising star Jenna Ortega—who previously worked with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice director Tim Burton on Wednesday—Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, and Willem Defoe. But it’s not the combination of cast, both old and new, that got our hearts racing—it’s the play on nostalgia.

Fans are generally thrilled with the fact that Keaton and Ryder are reprising their role, but there’s also plenty of excitement surrounding the new cast and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s narrative.

The trailer opens with the iconic Banana Boat song by Harry Belafonte, the very same song featured in the original movie in which the two ghostly characters haunt the family that has moved into their house, forcing them to dance along. But what’s even more striking is how easily Michael Keaton slipped back into his eponymous role in the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie, with many commenting that the actor looks like he hasn’t changed one bit since his last portrayal in 1988.

That “the Juice is loose” line only goes to show that the actor hasn’t lost his connection to the iconic character, making the fandom—most of which were ’80s kids—extremely nostalgic and extremely happy to see him. Fans are generally thrilled with the fact that Keaton and Ryder are reprising their role, but there’s also plenty of excitement surrounding the new cast and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s narrative.

The upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a continuation of the original narrative, with members of the Deetz clan moving back into their haunted house after a sudden death in the family. When Lynda’s (Ryder) rebellious teen daughter Astrid (Ortega) discovers a portal to the afterlife hidden in the basement, the name of the ghost with the most gets inevitably repeated three times, bringing him back to the realm of the living to wreak havoc in the upcoming movie once again.

Work on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice began in 1990, but the movie was stalled and kept in development hell, with multiple restarts happening over the decades.

Apart from bringing back the iconic cast, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the latest release in the horror genre to feature Jenna Ortega, who, besides venturing into other projects like Miller’s Girl, has become synonymous with the said genre.

Apart from starring in Wednesday as the titular character, Ortega also appeared in two Scream installments but won’t return to the franchise in Scream 7 following pay disputes and scheduling conflicts with the production work on Wednesday, Season 2.
