Was Community gone too soon? Or did it become a dead horse that got the hell beaten out of it? Regardless of how you feel on the matter, Alison Brie seems to think her time as Annie Edison of Community isn’t quite over. Brie says the long-rumored movie may finally be on the way.

The Wrap gave fans a preview of their upcoming Unwrapped podcast episode, in which Alison Brie talks about “movement” on the Community movie. “You know what, I’ll say it. There’s been movement,” Brie said. “There’s been some talks. People are talking and certain things — wheels are turning. I said it!” She also told the podcast that while discussions about a Community film have died on the vine before, that in this case things seem to be a lot farther along in the process than in previous attempts.

If Alison Brie and the cast of Community reunite for a movie, there’s a question of exactly who will return. While Brie certainly seems to be in and as recently as June, Joel McHale talked to Comic Book about his interest and optimism about the movie, part of what made Community so brilliant was its cast. Donald Glover seems to waffle a bit about whether or not he would be game to return for a movie. As Variety recounted in 2020, in spite of McHale’s previous statements speculating that Glover would be too busy to come back, during the cast’s Covid reunion, the Atlanta star showed a lot of interest.

It’s a sure bet that Alison Brie, Joel McHale, Donald Glover, and the rest of the Community cast will stop short of sending Chevy Chase an invite to any revivals. Chase was a member of the original lead cast but his character Pierce Hawthorne was killed off before season 5. According to Screen Rant, the Saturday Night Live alum reportedly went on a loud, angry rant during the filming of season 4’s “Advanced Documentary Filmmaking,” which was the last of a lot of straws. In a 2018 New York interview (via Den of Geek) Glover claimed that Chase would occasionally target him with racist jokes in-between takes, including saying that the audience only thought he was funny because he was black.

Sadly, Alison Brie doesn’t just count Community among the cult favorite shows she was a part of that got the axe. With the fall of 2020 came the news that the Netflix dramedy GLOW, about female wrestlers, would not be continuing. Filming on GLOW‘s final season had begun, but production was canceled because of covid. Just like in the case of Community, Brie has expressed interest in a follow-up movie, but she doesn’t think it has a great chance of happening.

Whether or not Alison Brie ever stars in a Community movie, she’ll next be appearing in the romantic comedy thriller Spin Me Round. Her character wins a trip to Italy through the restaurant chain she works for, but what’s supposed to be vacation and managerial training turns into something much more sinister. Brie is joined in the film by Aubrey Plaza, Alessandro Nivola, Molly Shannon, Tim Heidecker, Fred Armisen, and more.
