Samantha Morton, well-known as the actress who played Alpha on The Walking Dead, has tweeted from a UK COVID-19 ward. She posted that she was in the red zone, with hashtags “#WearAMask” and “#COVID19”. In follow-up Twitter posts, she shared photos of herself wearing a mask and face shield. She also thanked the hospital staff at Essex’s Conquest Hospital. Since her initial posts, her spokesperson has shared that though her symptoms could have indicated COVID-19, she was having an allergic reaction. She has posted that she is now on the mend.

The “red zone” of the hospital is a reference to where COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospitals. The spokesperson for The Walking Dead star has said that she is now recovering at home. More details on her hospitalization were shared in a statement from her spokesperson. “Samantha Morton suffered an anaphylactic shock last night,” they said.

“Because her temperature was so high and she was having difficulty breathing she was placed on a Covid ward for several hours where she witnessed the current shocking situation in our hospitals first hand. Samantha would just like to send her thanks and absolute admiration to all the NHS staff who are doing such an incredible job under the most distressing circumstances. Samantha is now home with her family recovering.”

The Oscar-nominated actress was born in England, and has had a long, respected career. Morton was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2000 Academy Awards for her role in Sweet and Lowdown, and received another nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2004 for In America. She has also appeared in such films as 2002’s Minority Report, 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and 2012’s John Carter.

Recently, American audiences also caught The Walking Dead star on Harlots on Hulu, where she played Margaret Wells. Unfortunately, Harlots was canceled after three seasons, but the show remains on the streaming service. Still, her American fan base mostly knows her from her Walking Dead role, where she played Alpha for 22 episodes.

On a show that already has stand out characters, Samantha Morton came on and made a huge impression on the show’s audience. Though no character on The Walking Dead lives forever, she built a strong connection with the audience that still has fans following her online now, even as they’re waiting for the final seasons of The Walking Dead without her character.

These days, Samantha Morton has been said to be working on writing and directing her own projects, and considering growing her hair back after shaving her head – and her eyebrows – for The Walking Dead. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the Walking Dead actress has been publicly hospitalized. In the mid-2000s, there are reports of her having a stroke. Fans who are looking for updates on Morton’s recovery should check her aforementioned Twitter account for more news.
